Default 1984 Meteor Auto wont engage

Last time I drove my Meteor I pulled up at a set of lights and when I tried to accelerate away there was no drive. I couldn't reverse or anything. I can see the gear selector moving on the top of the gearbox but it wont engage gear. There was no sign of trouble before this happened. There is oil in the gearbox.

If you know an honest mechanic or good transmission place take it in to them, it might just be a linkage problem or it could be the torque converter, or it may just need a service
