Default Stock Levels

Random question. Took a stroll past my local Ford dealer on the weekend (Victoria Park, Perth) and there was not one Mondeo to take a look at. None outside and none on the showroom floor!

Is this just because of the Belgium factory downtime? Do other dealers have stock?

Seeing that the Falcon platform is to remain in production for another 31/2 years (REALY?) I guess it wouldn't be all that disastrous for there to be no direct brand competitor ......

It takes about 6 weeks for the vehicles to get here from Genk. Add in time waiting for the ship, and transport to Perth/Sydney/Brisbane/wherever, and it could be months before they turn up at a dealer.

I put an order in for the Titanium wagon I didn't end up buying in early November 10, didn't see the car until early May 11. With the MA I had, the wait for that was three months. So they could be on the road or sea, or could be being delayed by the new model.

Lots of reasons for no stock in dealers, and the dealer I was going to get the MC from said all the dealers complained to the new CEO when he started about availability, looks like not much has changed.

Genk went on strike earlier in the year for a while, after they announced the plant was to be shut. It will take some time for stock levels to return to normal.

2 weeks a go a major Ford dealership here in town had ZERO new Mondeo of any trim level or body style. Can't be doing sales any good.
Looks like not much has changed in 3yrs since I purchased.

People expect to be able to at least look at the car they want to buy, and then maybe settle for something already 'in stock' as opposed to wait 3+ months for something.
Or just buy interstate :-) ......

3 months is a v-e-r-y long time is car sales land......

Local dealer looked up the stock on his computer ...3 diesels 1 EcoBoost. You wouldn't want to be picky.

ryeman - true, the dealers can look up stock items. IIRC from what I saw myself, the listings are by state.

Is it factory closure, shortage of EcoBoost engines or just possibly determination to not be stuck with pre 2013MY stock with the 'new' one just 'round the corner?
In Rosebud they had one 2008 used diesel (hope the slab dash is removed and improved in looks/quality). Would love to know just what IS going on though.

OK, a quick and dirty litmus test of stock levels as listed on Carsales.com.au today
This site is where I found my car 3 yrs ago, albeit interstate.

Mondeo MC - 126 in total
LX (9)
LX TDCi (55)
Titanium (1)
Titanium EcoBoost (14)
Titanium TDCi (17)
Zetec EcoBoost (27)
Zetec TDCi (3)

Mondeo MC
New South Wales (32)
Northern Territory (1)
Queensland (21)
South Australia (4)
Victoria (48)
Western Australia (23)
(ACT ans TAS not respresented)

with 370 dealer used listed (all models - HB to MC))
and 65 Demo / near new at dealers (MC only)

How many Ford dealers are there ?
Basic maths to find average stock level.

Well after placing a order for our Titanium wagon back in 22 Dec 12, was told Jan 13 the 1 in stock turned out to be canabilised for spare's, it then went back to Mar but due to plant prob's. A week before due date it went back again to the end of May. I was told car started build in Jan, completed in Feb but no ship for transport. The car finally turned up in Melbourne on May 21 & we took delivery of our Dark Micastone Titanium Wagon (Tinted windows & towpack) on May 30th. Oh happy days & a pleasure to drive

Thanks Allan
Really enjoying the new toy, but will take a while to get use to all the features but thats half the fun & for ryeman. I can't find a My on any of the paperwork so I can only presume its a MY13. The build & compliance dates are both 2013. What a great drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
