Is it easier to ship a car from NZ than it is to ship one from elsewhere on the planet? a) given its RHD, and b) would they run similar regulations to us?

I also noticed that the G6ET is only NZ$5000 more expensive than a G6E !!! which is about AU$3700 compared to the AU$8000...

Pricing is strange, but good in NZ... :evil3:

I daresay that importing a car from anywhere is difficult/painful/annoying at the best of times when you have actually owned it for the preceeding 12 months.
I'm not sure of the story when you try to bring a new one in... I'm sure they would make it as hard as possible! Plus, you'd probably get zero warranty on it here.

I saw what I believe was the MMS show car wagon a few weeks ago outside Product Engineering, black, real dark windows and a big yellow Left Hand Drive Evaluation Vehicle sticker on the back, so it seems to me its still being evaluated.

It had to be the show car.

Surely Ford have tested the market more extensively than just interest at the Melbourne Motor Show. Were this the definitive test, the whole country would be driving Ferraris

Motor shows are probably the worst testing possible. Typically the demographic attending are young and very unlikely to be in the market to buy a new car. The poor demographic attending motor shows is one of the prime reasons so many importers (Benz, Porsche, etc) no longer bother getting a stand as they get better bang for their buck from targetted events such as invitation only drive days etc.

There is definitely a martket for the Mondeo wagon. Look at the success of the Mazda 6 wagon as an example. Ford should import this wagon and offer it in a range of equipment levels. Fleets will be interested in the TDCi but user-choosers are more likely to be looking for a "Ghia" spec diesel or a petrol powered sports variant.

The 220ps (PferdeStarke, which is German for HorsePower) is the same as power quoted for the XR5T over here. Taken from the flywheel though if I recall correctly.

Would be a good combination 2.5T with a six speed manual in a wagon.

The Melbourne and Sydney Motorshows have been squabbling for years about which one is better, which is more important, yada, yada, yada.
The PR material is stuffed full of "puffery" in order to sound more important.

The last time I went, it was as a guest (freebie as an Audi owner). I admit that it is nice to see new cars, but the show is not the best place, as there is no guarantee to see the full range, and most of the car reps there are just eye-candy ;) And whilst there is nothing wrong with a good dose of eye-candy ...they can't answer my car questions!

Well I've got my Mazda 6 brochures and they have just dropped in price by over $2k - so it looks like I'm off to Mazda to get a mid sized wagon !!!

The price drop only justifies my gut feel last month when I was shopping around.

I genuinely hope you enjoy your Mazda - Even as a previous owner of a Mazda, I just couldn't bring myself to buy the new Mazda6.

For those interested this is part of an article on CarsGuide referring to the new Fiesta & Kuga which references the Mondeo wagon:

'Two of the best and brightest Fords from Europe are being readied for sales in Australia. The great-looking, new Fiesta and the compact Kuga four-wheel drive are set for Down Under deliveries, with only the timing, price and equipment still to be set. Both should be in showrooms in the first quarter of 2009.

They will —Join the Mondeo station wagon, which is already confirmed but running late, and probably the S-Max people mover. Ford Australia, however, isn't revealing details under a policy that prevents commenting on future products and despite the importance of the company's quality compact imports.

Even the Mondeo wagon, which was previewed at the Melbourne motor show at the start of the year, is still subject to speculation.

“Yes, the car is coming,” says spokesman Mark Winslow.

“We will announce the details when we are ready.” '

Sounds like he is sick of being asked "when". I would think that this would mean there is significant interest in the car ???

I think one of the first questions after they state when the car is coming would be "Tell 'em the price son!"

This ad appears in the current issue of New Scientist (Australia & New Zealand version), all of the other adds in the mag are for Australia. Notice that the name is listed as Titanium X (UK branding?) and that it's a 2.2 litre.

There's absolutely no other detail in the ad apart from the logo and fuel consumption figures. They're supposed to be releasing it in October but no word from ford :

What's everyone think?

Would buy one in a flash. In fact, I know in absolute terms that i would order one in January if it was made available here in that spec, regardless of name.

I'm about to order a Subaru Outback because I couldn't wait any longer.

Surely there would be some press if it was to be released in October !!!
