Hi all time has come to look at rebuilding the motor in my v6 gt. Whilst it runs with only one tappet making noise it does seem to be getting water in the oil although not fully sure at this stage. So purchased some d port heads recently and need to ask the question if the motor is sound and I'm not looking to race what is the best setup to go for and what would a rebuild cost? I will not do the work myself apart from pulling motor out and reckon nothing is wrong internally but I'm pulling the motor for respray so might as well reco while I have the time. Wish list is running unleaded fuel and changing timing gears as everything seems to point to those mods. Money is no issue but longevity and power are top of the list. Who do I go to if I'm in Sydney and what should I be asking for. Thanks

Hopefully you also acquired the D-port manifold with those heads......

I have no idea if the water galleries in the oval-port blocks line up with the D-port heads....hopefully.
Time to share the knowledge !!!!

Yeah hopefully never considered that. Now you have given me more work to do. Although it is just a pastime which makes it fun. Will get to you with my findings or the trails and tribulations we shall see. Thanks for the reply. Keith

Get in contact with John at Capri Spares - he has built more capri engines than you and me have had hot dinners.

My v6 is being built by KCs engine balancing at castle hill. He took the engine and stripped it down. He said it was in reasonable condition but needed a conventional reconditioning. So I ordered new piston rings, big end and main bearings, new valves from burton power website which cost $560 inc express shipping. Also ordered a full gasket kit from ebay for $85.

Jack has resleeved the valve stems and put harder valve seats for unleaded. And new welsh plugs throughout. Below are some pics of the head before and after. I don't know the final cost of labour but should find out tomorrow and I'll let you know so you can do some comparisons.

Ok so yeah jack delivered the engine back last night and the bill was $2475 but then he gave me a discount for cash. The total time taken I think was about 2 months but I did tell him I wasn't in a hurry. I've asked him to give me a list of what was done so I could post it up online. But in a nutshell he has done the full job on the heads which was $900 and the rest was on the block. Ill post the list online when I get it from him.

He's a nice guy and good to deal with

This morning I'm going to pickup the carbi which is done by a different guy. It cost $245 to rebuild the carbi plus $40 for the rebuild kit which I pre-ordered off ebay.

So next task is to paint the engine again and reassemble the intake etc so I can start the engine up. Then I'll know for sure if I got value for money.

So do I take it his work was $2475 plus your purchases or is it including. Also did he give you measurements of valve sizes and piston rings ? Thanks

Good luck with the Capri. It was the same one I looked at but I was not sure of the re-stamped shockie tower and I live in Queensland so i left it. Cheers.

Ok so it was $2475 less a 10% discount for cash. Plus $560 for the parts I ordered. He paid for some parts like new valve sleeves, valve seats, welsh plugs and some other small supplies. I paid for the gasket kit which was $85

The replacement valves were standard size but he specified the bearing and ring sizes. Before I paid for the parts I emailed the exact dimensions to him so he could double check before I paid for them. They took 3 days to come from the uk which was good.

For what I paid he did build the whole engine so all I had to do was bolt all the auxillaries back on.

I painted it on Sunday and also got the carbi back from its rebuild.

Wiggy333, I requested a letter for my XY and they sent me one for your Capri, I had requested one in May but as I did not own the car I could not get it. If you want it I can post it to you. Cheers and I hope you enjoy your Capri.

Hi Stuart is that the info letter from Ford regarding what options, color interior it came out with? If so I already got it from Ford when I bought it. I found it hard to get due to the mismatch of chassis numbers(ck17 - ck18) but they found it and assured me the chassis number was correct. Still doesn't explain the reason though. If it's a different letter though please let me know. The car is great, little rust etc and the motor ran with only new spark plugs and a carby prime. Cheers Keith

Hi all, so how do you really identify a true V6 capri. I came from Perth and went via Adelaide to view the Black Capri in Daw Park asking price of $19000.00 when I got there the slam panel had a CK14 number the strut tower whilst painted as well as engine bay with almost underbody deadener showed no signs of any number. The triangle braces at the booster and other side looked like they were screwed on. To be fair to the seller the front panel had well and truly been replaced maybe from an accident, it did have the little extra brackets the triangles at the top of the guards. It did have three bolt hole crossmember. The motor was not matching numbers to the Vin Plate, so I left it alone. the main thing being the strengthening brackets that looked dodgy. So on my CK18km car the front panel is original unless a master installed it and believe me that has not happened. The earlier post regarding a restamped strut number doesn't seem possible as their is no other number and on top of that you have a completely wrongly stamped Vin number that Ford agrees is original. So my Question is firstly how can you tell, Secondly can someone put a picture of where the stampings should be and of the Font that was used to identify these. I will put a picture of my strut stamp up when I get back home but i am sure there is no others as I have removed all the paint. Bear in mind it is probably best to shade out a number or two so they can't be copied. This guy obviously knew their was an issue as he said many have looked at it and its been for sale for a while. Any help would be appreciated. Keith
