i know this will seem probably a bit of a stupid question but. ive been looking and was wondering about using the pipe that Ben85 used on his intake paired with an Apexi Universal Power Intake Filter, along with the apexi sizing adaptor.
Pipe: http://purchasenet.com.au/shopping/a...ose-p-871.html
filter: http://www.modyourcar.com.au/apexi-u...d-85mm-id-p511
Adaptor: http://www.modyourcar.com.au/apexi-p...nch-neck-p4844

Im trying to go somewhere a little bit different hence the jdm. just throwing it out there to see what u guys and ur perpetual wisdoms think of it as a set up.

It would depend on exactly where you were going with the filter?

Because i dont think the pipe i bought will go over the intake manifold (its too high).

There's no real way of knowing until you measure everything up and see whether things will fit...remember... measure twice, cut once!

HI guys

With these pod filters you are using are you removing the panel filter or using both? and if you are removing the panel filter do any changes need to be made?
other than adding the pod.

Thanks

If you have a look at the engine then yes, you need to change the setup when using a pod filter. You totally remove the panel filter and 'air-box' and replace it with any of the setups in this thread. therefore you don't use both.

Just a thought,

Looking at the stock intake configuration with the engine cover forming part of the airbox with a panel filter inside it and the induction pipe going into the engine cover deliver air through a pipe that goes back down into the throttle body, I can easily make a conclusion that this setup is crippling performance, simply becuase the air has to travel through heaps of piping also lowering its velocity (speed it travels at).

After removing the engine cover and installing a pod filter, I've essentially made the journey shorter for the air going in. The engine feels more responsive in the lower rev ranges but my question to you all is:

Are there any real-life power figure increases? Has anyone actually put their fiesta on the dyno after installing a CAI (boxed in or not)? What is the power figure for a stock fiesta and what kind of increase would a efficient Cold air induction setup produce?

there's probably a thousand threads about this... We've all been there done that, some have simliar piping that stock air-box but with a pod instead... some take the shorter route over the headers. to answer the power increase, i'd say with exhaust work like some of us here... anywhere from 1-5kw increase... AT BEST. Mainly it's better throttle response and smoother top end.

+1 for mainly better throttle response and smoother top end. And apparently a Turbo Sucking sound.

I had my WP 1.6L Auto dynoed. 61.4ATW with 2 inch Redback Cat Back + K&N Apollo CAI. A friend had his WQ 1.6L with the same exhaust minus any air filter mods 56.3 ATW. These were done on the same day.

lol all these setups are making me seriously lol...I cant believe the position of the intake manifold and throttle body on these things..Yall be better off pointing the intake system towards the front bar grill and wedging a mini conestac filter in there. Not only would u get CAI but you'd get great Air compression as well.

It's why i love the old model festiva's especially the 97's. Fantastic to work on!

haven't done much more experimenting NJM586... cleaned + oiled the filter! thats about it.

I'm lol'ing that you'd begin even modifying a Festiva... each to their own though.

Not many people out there who actually put in the spanner time and rebuild the 1.5's.

B5T 16v. mine isnt exactly doin 290horses. But im happy to say at 7psi's of boost it gets along alright.

This is a bit of an odd question but i am getting inspired by all these awesome custom jobs and am tring to do something similar with my Festiva. Its a 1.3 98 festiva manual (WF). i have tried just about every performance specialist around and can not find anything that is even close to compatible. the only option i was left with is installing a pod but there is no fesh air where the pod would sit (pointing toward the driver along the front fender) and it just seems like a lost cause.

Please any suggestions?????

Hi Guys/Girls

I was reading this thread yesterday ( got inspired ) so I rung a mate of mine last night and we knocked up a sysem, still need to to make two brackets and polish one more pipe ( too late last night to finish ). It is over the top and probably not the most efficent way but we had fun doing it and I think it looks good ( sounds fantastic even over the top of the loud exhaust ) and best of all it did not cost a cent, can't seem to post and picture
will keep trying

Howdy all,

I installed the BMC DIA before Xmas and it has improved my top end so im able to rev it out better with the bigger wheels which was a struggle previously and response which i am very happy with also a nicer engine note.

The only problem Ive had is with starting the car, the car turns over then dies and it would take a couple of attempts to get i going. Ive also noticed that the fuel and and temp gauges will flash some times while trying to start it.

would this be a timing issue?

Advice.

Thanks

Reviving an old thread, but I thought it was appropriate.....

As we all know, the hardest thing with the 1.6 intake is the fact the t/c is nestled nicely down between 2 manifold pipes.....

So we all envy the XR4 bots with their side mounted t/b's!

I have done the unthinkable......

I have bought a Puma 1.7 manifold.

Puma, what is the Puma car he speaks of.

It was a vehicle Ford produced for the European market as a semi sporty 2 door with a 1.4 and a 1.7 engine (and what is know as the Ford Racing Puma which produced around 180bhp I think.)

Any way back to the 1.7 manifold, it is basically a bit of a performance type (i.e tries to have equal length runners etc) for the Zetec SE engines and has been seen to produce around 6-8bhp with a performance filter...

More to come when I can sort out postage!!!

Interesting. Not something I've heard of before. May I enquire as to the price & how hard they are to find?
I believe the FRP put out around 155bhp according to Burton Power

The few I have seen have been 180, but may have been modded. 153 from here http://www.carfolio.com/specificatio...car/?car=87571 .

At this stage it was 44 pound with a K&N and a gasket, they don't seem to come up often, but if you find one, you also have to get someone who is willing to help get it posted.

Here are some pics of a 1.7 in a Mk5 Fez. The second pic is the best to see the manifold
