Default Weekly Race 4 Real Report: October 26, 2016

Wednesday night Race 4 Real off-street meets continue to be one of the most popular events on the Sydney Dragway calendar and it’s quite easy to see why!

Here are some great performances from last week’s Race 4 Real at Sydney Dragway.

Top Holden of the Week

Managing a best run down the quarter mile of 11.42 @ 118.74 MPH, this relatively sedate looking VL Commodore reminded everyone that the mighty VL Turbo can still hang with the new blood.

Top Japanese of the Week

The Subaru Liberty is the epitome of a wolf in sheep’s clothing and the Gen 4 is arguably its most popular iteration, combining sharp, understated styling with WRX-matching performance in GT form with the potential for even more. This grey example ran a best time of 14.51 @ 96.77 MPH, demonstrating just how capable these machines really are.

Top Rotary of the Week

This green Mazda 1300 was certainly different from the rotary builds we usually see here at Sydney Dragway. With that signature rotary powerplant coupled with a tare weight of about 900 KG, give or take, this little monster ran a best time of 10.65 @ 122.11 MPH.

Top European of the Week

The MK7 Volkswagen Golf R is a technical showcase of just how far the hot hatch has come since the introduction of the MK1 Golf GTI more than 40 years ago. Boasting a turbocharged powerplant and immense AWD grip, the Golf R rocketed down the quarter mile to a best time of 11.94 @ 115.07 MPH.

Top Ford of the Week

Breaking into the 10 second bracket is a serious feat for a street car and the FG Falcon is one of the easiest cars to achieve this in with not too much by way of modifications. Managing a best run of 10.72 @ 129.31 MPH, this Falcon was packing some serious horsepower.

Commentator’s Pick of the Week

Definitely not something you see every day, it was definitely a pleasant surprise to see this Ford F-150 testing its performance here at Sydney Dragway. As menacing as they come with its enormous bull bar, a set of off-road radials and those ridiculously large exhaust tips, this beast of an F-150 stormed down the strip to a best time of 17.73 @ 77.90 MPH.

Race 4 Real is on every Wednesday night at Sydney Dragway, weather permitting. Keep it safe, legal and off the streets! Gates open at 4:30PM and racing starts at 6:00PM. Check our website for T&C’s and entry information.
