Default Capri GT 3000 V6 WANTED

As above, where would I start to look for one, the engine that is? Or is there a similar later model variant?

What sort of money are these cars going for? I'm interested in buying one as a project car (not specifically a V6).

Good luck trying to find a really good V6GT Capri that won't cost you a couple of limbs

I got a pretty decent V6 Capri for around 3 grand, and it was road registered. Look into getting a four cylinder one, cause many of them are able to kill a V6 Capri, unless of course, you like the lovely burble in the exhaust as you decellerate, then, you need a V6! The Essex is really good, considering it holds up damn well for a 72.

The only time a 4 pot Capri would kill a V6 is if th 6 was running on 3 cylinders. Having owned 5 Capri's ( 4's and 6's ) and currently in possesion of a RS3100 I think i'm qualified to make this statement. If a V6 cant kick the hell out a 4 there is a serious problem..... Hell even my Twin Cam Cortina who's motor is a seriously worked version of the Kent 1600 used in the Capri has trouble staying wth th V6

Ok.

The Pinto used in the Capri was a 2.0lt this engine with a single Weber 32/36 DFAV carburetor and 8.2:1 compression. It produced 64 kW (86 hp) and 140 N·m (103 ft·lbf). Even the 1.8 Dohc only produced 115 hp, admitedly they can produce good power when worked on.

The Essex v6 used in the is good for 142hp in baseform and around 170ft lb of tourque, and when breathed on can produce 250+ hp and a lot more tourque. So the extra weight of the v6 is of no consequence, they also will pull fairly good revs, in fact only slightly less than the Pinto you love so much.

And fyi in all the many years i've own'd V6 Capri's never have I been beaten by a Pinto engined vehicle either standard or worked over....

Although I knew a guy with a blown ex-formula Ford Kent block in a Capri that would have given the Essex a good run...

I keep this brief.....The V6 is basically built for torque so where having torque is an advantage, ie hill-climb on the freeway etc blowing a 4cyl away is what the V6 does best. However, where a good worked 4cyl comes into its own is excelleration. I'm a big fan of both the 2lt Pinto and the Essex V6, I own an RS2000 and a GT V6 Capri. To compare the cars would be crawl but I'd have to say the Pinto would have the Capri off the line 10 times out of ten, but cruising at 100, then dumping the foot would see the pinto really struggle against all that torque (even with the big cam thats in my RS2000)
Theres an old saying - "there's no substitute for horses"....Which we all know is just pub talk. Having a std base torque of 260Nm at only 3000rpm the V6 makes it a pretty good start for a performance engine. Unfortunately, the cost and availaility of parts makes working up a Essex pretty much, uneconomical.
.....Oh, to answer the original question - Try placing an ad in your local Capri Club newsletter. There's usually a club member got one stashed away somewhere.

Most woud have rust in them as well. Check the car over for hidden rust in the body frame.
Panels & interior are now starting to get scarce as well. So chose wisely unless your good with the torch & mig.

Mechs are not a big issue

After a VERY tidy capri v6, GT would be a bonus. Will travel for right car. (Eastern suburbs of Melbourne)

I just wanted to check if this car is available or if it has been subsequently sold. I am also interested in finding a GTV6 Capri, or even an RS3100 if I was lucky enough.

Do you still have the running gear Sean?

E-mail me at radioactiveman1@optusnet.com.au.

I would also like to restate my search for a V6GT Capri, RS3100/2600 Capri or even a '69 1600GT Capri.

Thanks

Jamie
