After driving around Europe in a Ford Transit for the last 6 months I can vouch for how fast these things go past on the motorway and how glorious they sound. Look mean as hell following you too.

God damn that are a sexy hatch! Well done Ford!

If they were AWD I'd buy one in an instant. The idea of all that power to the front wheels isn't something that is appealing. Especially should you want more power down the track..

It is a little disappointing that there is still no cruise control, but with curves like that it could be missing the steering wheel and I'd still love it..

They certainly look the goods but I would balk on the price. I don't care how exclusive it is, I'd not hesitate for a second if they were asking that much and it was AWD.

Poked around a little at an XR5 when I was car shopping a few years ago - marked it off because it didn't have cruise control (can't believe it still doesn't in the RS...?), ended up paying around $60k for an R32 - could have gone the GTi but didn't want FWD and happily ponied up an extra $15k for it.

A mate was just quoted $75k on road for a blue one at Sinclair Ford. Excuse given for the premium was "where else would you find a blue one". That is disgraceful!

What is worse is that he is considering it! I think paying that much for a fwd four seater ford hatchback is crazy!!!!

I'd much prefer a GT coyote for that money or even an evo or wrx

Absolutely awesum machines ! but the price here is OTT, what are the euros paying matter of interest ?
They look the business hands down - can't see the big issue re cruise - unless your on freeways everyday yer but most would be used in the citys anyway or track.

As far as I know we have the Green one all sparkley in the showroom right now unless the owner has picked it up today? The pictures don't give that colour justice, up close it's almost iridescent. Amazing to look at, especially with the blacked out wing, diffuser and front bar.

What does it compete with for us big ford guys?
Please explain to me why someone would buy a FWD for 60 gorillas?

It's not for economy so don't start on that angle!
ok, if you're a sheila I s'pose? (or a ladyboy or a ricer) ...

Not everyones world revolves around an Aussie Falcon. There are people out there who would sooner sink 60k into a performance hatch than a large sedan. For those who are in the market for one have no issue pay $60k for the car they want. It's really not that difficult to understand that the world doesn't revolve around RWD's or Falcons.

I don't see what the issue is. Your not the one parting with your money so whats hard to understand. It's no different to people choosing to drive a Holden.

I personally don't understand why theres so many negative comments about the car. So what if it's FWD and not AWD. It's not the end of the world, and believe it or not, there are people out there who see more value in a FWD car than a RWD. It's a performance hatch, and it's a ford. Why people are flat out against it, I don't really understand. Well done to ford for providing a vehicle in this country that many RS fans have really wanted to see here. It's been a long time since the last RS.

Its not like people are driving these things on gravel anyway. FWD will be fine for the road as long as the chassis can cope with the power and it looks like Ford has done a decent job with it. Its supposed to be faster around Fords proving ground in Europe than the GT supercar so its definitely a good piece of kit.

For people saying 60k is too much well the STI and Evo are the same price or more. The RS out powers both.

As a traditionalist V8 rear wheel drive loving front wheel drive hating old fashioned kind of guy, I too have seen one of these in the flesh.

It's an absolute stunner. As said in post #1 the pics don't do it justice.

A future classic. I'm with Tim, get me one. In Green.

T

PS congrats to FoMoCo on producing such a stunning car for this segment.

Awesome car. I was lucky to see one in the flesh when i was in London last year. It was green and like everyone has said the pics don't do the colour justice.
Will be great to see one on aussie roads

It's not aim at us old school folk. There is no point.

However a beast like that will add customers to the Ford family who are Hi-tech biased and were previously EVO & WRX/STi or Euro hot hatch buyers.

Grow, not substitute the business. Smart move in opinion.

It is unreal that people bag this car...price? Well thats all relative, I think paying $500k for a 30yo falcon is stupid so horses for courses. This is the cheap Focus, price up a RS500

Performance? Show me another hatch that out guns it (factory), you have the badge (RS is as good as GT) and exclusivity in oz.

FWD vs AWD has been done to death, youtube proper road tests of it and I am yet to find anyone that gives it a bad rap.

At the end of the day it laps quicker than cars that are apparently "better" setup, it looks good, it unique and is a Ford...so the only reason people bag it is because they cant afford it.

Lighten up, no one has a gun to your head.

Looks like a cool car but I also dislike the FWD aspect. People have opinions and this is a forum we don't all need to agree.

To say that people don't like it because they can't afford it is plain stupid. Nor do we all have to like it just because it wears a Ford badge.
