Agree. Pretty true for most of the rest of the country, New York and New Jersey maybe not so.

Canadian's want them too, but I guess it would be not worth them doing this.
I'm sure KTA are happy to plod along here.
Exporting gliders would have been the way to go, but the Demo Republic of Commiefornia's CARB put a stop to them.

Not wrong about wanting to plod along here, they're a bastard of a customer to have but I was having some wins by getting into the ear of their engineers rather than their purchasing team

I can't believe the difference between PACCAR Parts and Kenworth, one supplies the trucks out on the road and the other builds them, the former goes absolutely above and beyond for their customers and the latter can't be ****ed lifting a finger, its like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Only reason hoods are popular there is manufacturers don't build what owner want, sound familiar, FORD. The Yanks are just dying to get their hands on K220's but Oz won't export them.
I took a pic of this ugly set up when I was in Dallas.
Prob only pushing 30t as is, why the yanks can get over 1 million miles before the engine needs opening up.
Wasn’t the Argosy the last large COE on the market there, and they didn’t buy them so pulled from the market?

We know, we know, move on.
When you become boss of KTA they might sit up and listen.

Yanks bought them as gliders and were very successful up until CARB ruled no more.
They could get a cheap cabover, stick an old school 3406 Cat (no ECM) and 18 speed and run them as a new truck but still not fall into the electronic log book scheme. win win for the truckers.

What are gliders?
Can the rules of one state kill off the potential to import a specific model to the rest of the country?
I’m on a US based diesel mechanic page, and they all hate CA and the people there with a passion.
But it appears from comments deleting any form of emission control nationwide is a no go, massive fines for the operator and tech or workshop responsible (if managed to be caught).

Thats the same here:

https://www.nhvr.gov.au/engineremapping

Quote:
The NHVR and state or territory police services investigate companies suspected of engine remapping. Operators, executive officers and companies can receive penalties for these serious criminal offences including up to $340,000 or up to five years imprisonment for an individual and up to $3.4 million dollars in fines for a company with a category 1 breach.
Mates looking at getting his T610SAR remapped to turn off the SCR but its not worth the risk, look at the penalties on offer there, and the people at NHVR are like Highway Patrol, they'd be itching to get someone on one of those offences and will move heaven and earth to pull you up on that I reckon.

I bet all those who deleted then smashed the guts out of a functioning DPF or SCR catalyst will be spewing.

I’m guessing authorities will hook up a laptop and carry out a forced DPF regen or adblue pump dosing phase to determine if the system is working, as opposed to a simple visual check.

Tbh the money saved on adblue could offset the fine, providing they don’t go after the truck or the owners/companies service license.

There's a whole heap of legal reasons as to why this doesn't happen. The USA doesn't allow the importation of commercial vehicles. Trade agreements with Canada and Mexico are exemptions. That's why when the Monaro went to the USA, people were asking why the SS ute didn't go as well as they would have sold a metric s#!tload of them. All of the Volvo trucks that you see on the roads over there are produced in the USA as well. Now taking into account that Kenworth alone produces around 80,000 units a year for the US market, there is no way that Kenworth Australia could ever produce any amount that could remotely put a dent in any sales figures there considering that Kenworth Australia produces around 1400 units a year and wait times have blown out to two years. The issue of the low AUD to the USD is also a major reason why this will never happen.

Yes (California Air Reasearch Board) (Kevino) CARB's influence over the federal gov there was a bit of a sore point. I have a feeling CA going to become hungry, cold and stranded by the other lower 47 states trucking companies banning them from produce. I'm on several US based collector truck forums and they all say the same thing.

Gliders are (were) a new manufactured truck, without the rear drives, gearbox and engine.
Basically a new painted cab fitted out inside sitting on front suspension and chassis rails. It was a normal thing back from the 60's for trucking co's to buy several "Gliders" and store them on the back lots until they needed a replacement truck.
The company could inhouse rebulld the engine and trans and fit the whole drivetrain to the new chassis.

No doubt they could compel someone like Cummins to determine if the system is operational or not, or the NHVR will have access to OEM diagnostics - their safety and compliance team, they're targeting people who have qualifications in automotive mechanical trades in their current recruitment process so you'll be coming up against someone who has an idea of this sort of stuff on the side of the road in the future and last I checked they had into 6 figures on the wages too so you'll entice people off the tools.

I'm guessing there's a commercial vehicle version of the 'chicken tax' which is their 25% tariff which is designed to prevent competition of their own manufacturing industry on light commercial vehicles.

Kenworth was struggling to build over 12 trucks a day on their Bayswater production line as their supply chain couldn't keep up, and then post COVID lockdowns they had issues with a heap of inexperienced new staff on the production line.

Smoo, the glider was the last loophole bastion for the owner operator and could legally NOT fit DPF emission crap even ECM diesels.

Now there's a new way around it, its called gather up as many old school trucks (1998 and older) as you can and refit them with mechanical injected diesels.
ie their favour A model 3406 Caterpillar.

2016 Glider information.

I would be down for that role.
The amount of Rajs behind the wheel on flogged out Volvos would be cut in half in no time.

I am assuming going that route was more cost effective than stripping down and rebuilding an old rig from scratch. To striping and separating the chassis rails.
Doing this to say a 904 and turning it into a new truck again.

Work out cheaper in the long run just in down time.

You're assuming the process to have integrity. More likely it would be corrupt due to an influx of migrants from heavily corrupt countries, and mutual recognition of qualifications.

Despite all the Karens preaching their hate of Murica trucks have yet to see one involved in an accident around here. And I see heaps everyday.

They mostly post pictures of them parking retarded like no other vehicle does that. I have some hottie who can't park her i30 straight next to me everyday to save her life you can set your watch to it
