Acceleration time will be similar to this Ford Edge with the same engine.

It will be a quicker than the 6 speed edge - the Raptor runs a ten speed and will be a lot quicker off the line and through the gears. Cheers

Yes, but its heavier than the Edge.
I think Ford would be pleased if it gets under 10 secs to 100kph.

Currently its only the 550 Navara that can achieve that.

My wager is it will get under ten no problems. The wildtrack is 300kg heavier than the edge and the ten speed will see it under 10 - soon find out.
A manual 130kw 2 ton Hilux can do it in just over 10.

I will guess 9 seconds flat. It will spool up quickly and hold the rpm right where it needs to be, but it won’t be a rocket ship. It will have lower parasitic losses than the Edge AWD, but modern PTUs are pretty efficient in that regard.

Nothing impressive about that is there? A Ford 'performance' vehicle that struggles to reach 100 in under 10 seconds? Certainly won't provide much of a thrill on the road at that pace... On the road is where it will spend 90% of its time too.

Engine responds very well to mods, but auto gearbox can become unsettled trying to cope with the extra torque. Good fuel economy overall: 9-12L/100km city, 8L/100 country.

Whether it's the Mondeo or the Transit 2L that has been reworked it still seams strange that they chose a pretty modest engine to tune up. Out of all of the 'One Ford' engines that exist they chose a pretty average one for the 'performance truck' which is going to be one of the most expensive Ford products outside the proper performance cars.
Well the Toyota 86 is a performance vehicle and it has 200nm of torque, and would struggle up a steep hill. But it's not supposed to be a straight line rocket. Can't see Raptor being any different, it's not a straight line rocket either but will cover rough ground quicker than just about any production vehicle.

Not an appropriate comparison. The 86 nameplate was new, it didnt have a history of upgraded powertrain performance like Raptor does.

Imagine if Subaru brought out a WRX with a smaller engine than the regular Impreza and no more power? No amount of fantastic handling would save them from rightfully deserved criticism.

You might want to check the history on the 86.. it was designed to mimic its predecessor and by all accounts achieved that.
You could also view it as a WRX with less grunt and better handling since it has the subaru Boxer engine.
( but lets not get into a discussion on that as this thread is already long enough)

There's an amazing amount of butt hurt in this thread from people who are not the slightest bit interested in buying one.
I'm interested, not for the engines performance, but the suspension for 4x4ing.
My current Ranger probably doesn't require much more than 1/2 throttle whilst I'm off-road, so outright 0-100 performance isnt an issue.
Just my 2c worth.

And the Amarok and the soon to be released X Class at a guess since it will be a V6 Diesel.
I think the Ranger Raptor will get below the 10, but not by much.
Going to be funny seeing Ranger Raptors lose to a Camry in the good old drag lane at traffic lights.
I know someone will say "it's not designed for that" yeah I know it's not, but I bet more RR owners will race people off at the lights than try to jump through the desert or drive at 170km/h offroad. Or even drive on a unsealed road TBH

The vast majority that attempt that will only do it once

Why would someone with a 4x4 that is not built for the street try and race on the road? I dont think anyone is that dumb. If it was something like a F150 Lightning then maybe fair enough

The more I think about it, the more I think that this is the perfect urban vehicle.
The smaller 2.0lt motor keeps the nose light and the vehicle perfectly level when you launch it over speed humps and roundabouts.
There are millions of them everywhere, all designed to slow us down.
Well not any more. 0-100 times are all a thing of the past.
We can now compare hang time or air time the wheels spend off the ground when launched.
The urban roads have been specifically designed for this vehicle....time for another beer.

That's an amazing amount of assumption from someone who likely doesn't personally know many (any?) of the posters here.

Is the nature of the suspension going to lend itself to the sort low-speed 4wd'ing people here do? I don't know anyone who does the high-speed off-roading this car was developed to do.

Yep losing to the camry is about as embarrassing as being beat up by a 14 year old girl.. It would make me want to firebomb the ford dealership I bought it from , especially if I just forked out 80 large on a tough looking ute that bears the raptor name tag

I can't help but think most of the backlash could have been avoided if ford named it something else. Maybe ranger baja edition would have been better. As soon as they called it a raptor everybody knew what that should have meant.

I think I read that the Ranger Raptor will be sold in 184 markets around the world. Do you think Ford would care about about some insignificant people(to Ford) on a forum telling them they got it wrong?

Ford could also have avoided the backlash by putting a decent engine in it. Badge/Sticker engineering used to be reserved only for Toyota but it seems Ford have jumped on the band wagon too.

You are right roKWiz.Most Ranger Wildtracks and I guess the Raptors are bought for pose value. The bulk of owners wouldn,t take them off the tarmac for fear of getting dirt in the treads or dust on the paint.

Quote from a journo who rode in one -

There’s just been too much work and investment gone into this thing to imagine it won’t go global. It’s about as far from the sticker kits that things like the Toyota HiLux TRD and Holden Colorado Z71 get that it is possible to imagine.

The only other pick-up of this size that comes close to this concept is the fabulous Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, which we sampled recently.

So what is the Ranger Raptor? It’s what a Porsche 911 GT3 is compared to a 911 Carrera only, applied in an off-road sense. From our ride experience, it’s the closest you can get in Australia to what an off-road racing truck feels like, without sacrificing road registration or making your own mods.

It might not have the motor you want but please, spare us the BS.
Not the only journo who has said similar.
