For me it has something to do with getting up at 4:15am 5 days a week for work and spending the hole day on the Tools.

The 144hour 2week nigh shifts are even better.

It comes to the weekend and all you want to do is Chill out, and the idea of going out till 2 in the morning has no appeal at all.

And most of the time you are not tyred, you just think you are.

Don't sleep in on the weekends.
I've heard that if you disturb your regular sleeping patterns by more than 2 hours on the weekend, you can pay for it well into the week.
If you're up and about by 6am on a weekday, make sure you're out and about by 8 on the weekend.

Exercise helps, as does Google.

I guess it does depend on the individual. I don't really sleep much during the weekends (hell I am lucky to get home by 6am on the sunday, then I have to work a 9 hour shift in safeway staring at 8am in liquor ) but I get about 8.5-9 during the week, and still have time to do my uni stuff.

These days i say , getting out of bed after 8hrs sleep i feel like i did going to bed when i was 15.

sleep and tiredness is weird. but i think routine diet and exercise all contribute.
when i was at my fittest , ( boxing training at 20 ) i slept less than ever and only needed 5 hours sleep to feel refreshed.
but being a shift worker now , sleep and tiredness dont seem to relate . for example i can go to bed at 1 am and get up at 5 am and have a realtively energetic day, or i can work midnight shift, and get a couple of hours of ZZZZZZZZZ's pushed out at work then come home and get 9 hours of unconscious sleep through the day , making 11 hours in 24 . and feel like i'm dead.

If you are lethargic, try this, it REALLY works:

stand with one arm straight up the other like a teapot handle
turn 10 times clockwise
do a handstand
then poke your pinky fingers in your eye

If nothing else you will be dizzy and flat on the floor and your eyes will be so sore you will want to close them. :P

Its actually all to do with REM (rapid eye movement).

When you go to bed for 8 hrs most people will sleep the 8. Around 40-60 percent of sleep time for adults and more for younger children and teens accounts for REM.

Apparently this is when the body totally shuts down and will regenerate and heal. Any Alcohol, caffeine and even eating before bed can alter its effectiveness. This is also time when dreams may occur. Even overtiredness will effect the amount of REM you do get.

I did have sleep problems and I tried everything from not drinking to drinking myself to sleep. In the end though a bit of healthier eating and a bit more physical activity helped me alot.
