Default Carbie choice (???) on warm 2 litre (Ford Escort)

Hey, this is my first time posting and hoping you'll be of some help.

I've got myself a '79 Mk 2 Coupe with an RS2000's 2 litre installed. 60thou overbore, lumpy cam, lightened and balanced fly wheel, extractors.

My issue is that i'm running a standard downdraught weber with larger jets than usual. The car is running lean so I want an upgrade.

I've been told that a 350 holley, jetted down will do the job nicely - and it'll be a lot cheaper because i have the carb and adaptor plate etc already.
My gut tells me it's going to flood and be a waste of time.

I've been sussing out twin side carbs for it also, which appears to be the most expensive and most popular way to go - also understanding that I've got to put the battery in the boot etc etc.

Any other suggestions? I really want to feed what is looking like a hungry little engine.

Weber DGAS38 (off a later model V6 Capri)
There's a guy on ebay (from qld) who sells recoed ones for under $500. On mild to warm engines that are as good as twin webers and use less fuel. I ran a DFAV40 (off the early mk 1 Capris) on my RS2000 which is very similar, and it was as quick as a mate's Mk 1 Escort on twin 40s. My engine has had serious head work done, but is still driveable on the road unlike most twin fed monsters.

Yep have to agree with whooligan on the weber. I had a 350 holley on my 2ltr and it was a pain in the buttocks.

I agree about the holleys, I have heard mixed reviews some love the holley other dispise them for pinots.
Ah,then there twin 45s and 48s and there is quite a big difference,It not just a matter of throwing a set of side draghts on and hoping for the best!!!!!!

Tune them on a dyno,and correctly jet and tube them and twin 40s and especially 45s will out power the DGAS38 no problems at all, can be well mannered as well,depends on your cam then as well.

It all depends on what you looking for at what rev range.
You cant beat the raw of the side draughts,Im going back to 40mm dellorto's on my RS my self,luuuuvvvvvvv the sound of them.

And you dont need to relocate the battery to the boot,but you do need to trim the battery tray,depending on the airfilters you use. I think the ramflow(dome style) filters fit just.

What do you all think is a fair price for a set of matched 45s including the manifold and ramflow filters? i've seen prices vary rediculously so what do you reckon?

The main reason for this recent decision is because my 32/36 downdraught is giving me troubles with flat spots and the like - even after a full rebuild was put through it. No amount of tuning seems to be helping. Any of you had similiar problems?

One more thing - what would you call my engine with this set up: 60thou overbore, lumpy cam, lightened and balanced fly wheel, extractors, head port and polished - ---- warm? mild? What's the go?

Yes i'm currently running a downdraught weber 32/36 which is the same as the XE XF carbie and it's got larger jets installed as well. still doesn't seem to be doing the job.

Currently been offered a set of 36mm SU carbies (side draughts). apparently 'perfect' for my set up on the pinto. What's it like getting a manifold for that? Any issues with Su's? Looking like a much cheaper option if i can get hold of everything i need.
