Ive upgraded to an AUII Fairmont wagon as a daily its a nice ride. I use to drive a EBII 5.0 Fairmont Ghia Wagon one of 28 built and the last of the Ghia V8 Wagons. Would love to jump into a AU/BA Ghia v8 wagon if they were built.

That would be nice Mark, however they are still a great car and you'll be very happy with the upgrade

Hey there TrixieV8, youve got a nice car there, I love the Fairmont Wagons, you'll have to start a build thread and upload some more pics of her so we can see.

In regards to your rear door, is it the L/R rears or the tail gate, either way it would be th eactuator that will probably need to be replaced, the plastic cogs in them tend to go.

Mate sorry to say but it is both actuators, they are pretty easy to replace (about a 15min job each side)
I had to replace one on the AU1 Wagon that I had, I found one off ebay that was much cheaper than most places.

Thanks guys, this is an inspiring thread. I didn't know so few were made.
I also guess that's why the BA was only released in XT and Futura trim, with the argument being that Futura was equivalent to the AU Fairmont (not sure if it is). I wonder if there will be people trying to track down low km original Ice Mint Silver BA Futura wagons in the future? Having driven both I vastly prefer the low down torque of the AU motors.

Isn't it ironic now that wagons/SUV's (basically, wagons) and hatches (mini wagon hybrids) dominate the market?

Love the AU Fairmont wagons... and funnily enough the Series 1 styling the best...

Hi all, new here too. I just bought myself a Liquid Silver AUII V8 Fairmont wagon here in NZed.
It's got a factory fitted Tickford Sports Suspension Pack, Tickford 17" wheels and certainly sounds the bees knees, better than my '96 XG Longreach PanelVan.
They really are nice looking wagons.
It's got a 6 stack CD under the passenger's seat, a system not mentioned in the owners manual that came with it, don't know much about these wagons, except that they're pretty rare, but I've fallen in love with it - a keeper.
Will post a few pics when I can drag myself out of the driver's seat.

I own both a series11. 6 cyl and V8 wagon, both duel fuel, both similar kms.
I hadn't owned a V8 for 30 years, but when this one come on the market I couldn't resist it.
Strangely, I thought the V8 would be far more expensive to run than the 6, but as all my roads around home are 80/90/110 kmh, I have found I get around 28 km, and 40 km more out of a tank of LPG/Petrol, from the V8, compared to the 6 cyl.
I'm guessing the V8 idles far lower than the 6 at theses speeds, but apart from that, there is little to tell them apart, (except for that beautiful 5 litre roar!
With all the creature comforts, and the bonus of fuel injection, they are great cars.

I owned a later model, BA wagon, (2005.) that was always having some electrical problem that would need diagnosis, you could guarantee it would need an expensive repair, so I went back to the AU as it was the last reliable ford I had owned, in 2 years I have been able to diagnose my own faults, and have fixed them myself.

Last of the home mechanic Fords!

AU1, AU2 and AU3 I6 - probably only produced in the 100s

AU1, AU2 and AU3 V8 - probably not more than a couple 100 for the first two and probably less than 100 for the AU3.

Does anyone actually have production figures for these "sleeper" classics..?

Old thread bump, can confirm via for letter that there was 166 V8 S1 Fairmont wagons built, and 25 of them in my colour Regency Red

Still driving my AU1 fairmont Wagon the now has 379,000k on the clock. When I did an oil change last weekend I had a good look underneath and there is no sign of any rust underneath. It does have a tiny bit at the top of the windscreen though.
