My old XF hasn't seen daylight for about 4 or 5 months now.
If I am to leave it for even longer, what should I do? I've disconnected the battery, but that's all. What precautions should I take when I start it up after such a long rest period? I read about this on the forums before, but can't find it again. |

4-5 months isnt a long rest period at all. ive had cars sit around longer which i did nothing to when i fired it up.
check your fluids and when it starts, let it idle for a while to get everything lubricated again before you go and drive it. check your tyres too. |

Yeah.. our old van sat for over a year with a full tank or 91 RON.. etc. Only thing that happened was the battery went flat.. new battery and it fired up without problems.

left my xd 351 ute parked for 15months, new batry and she runs like a dream, let it idle like davway said and should be all good

I also plan to store my GTP away for about 6 mths,i will have to find a place,maybe i could have it on display at Ford Discovery centre, or are there any other suggestion's ?

I've read what's recommended is to block up the exhaust - perhaps the intake as well so stuff can't get up there. Fill the oil up, fill the petrol tank up, disconnect the battery, put it on axle stands - the tyres could go down. Tyres that stay flat for extended periods tend to go a funny shape where the sidewalls of the flat tyre have been flexed into a position that isn't ideal. Probably not good for the rims either. You may need to drain your fuel and get new juice when you resume using the car.

yes jack it up. ive heard its a must if the wheels are alloy, but id do just incase you have a slow leak or something in one of the tyres. get some cheapies, your not laying under it! i think i saw them for $40 a pair at supercheap. but since they sponsor murphy id try repco/autobarn/auto1...etc first.
ive been told to drain the radiator. and as said before disconnect battery. im not sure about the tank though.

ive found that leaving cars for a long time has caused some problems with seals & other materials that tend to go hard and brittle if not used
also, just starting it up every week or so doesnt solve all dramas, you really need to get everything moving, ie. gearbox, diff etc. apart from that though, shouldnt cause too much trouble
