Ford Aust should also be selling about 500+ Transit Customs a month and about 150 larger Transits a month. It will be interesting if they can get better supply when the new Transit Custom is released including the e-Transit Custom and e-Transit. Future class leader for the mid-size van is my prediction.

Transit runs rings around the Hi-Ace.

Monthly sales numbers are influenced too much by international supply and delivery constraints to really matter anymore imo.. end of year numbers at least give a representation overall factoring such things.

It was something about 6 months of back / preorders equal one months of Toyota sales lol.

They both compete in the same segment, and the Prado is internally the target competition for Everest. The Fortuner is irrelevant because no one wants one of those things. One of the rare vehicles that Toyota have failed selling.

Not comparable - no tax advantages back then for Thailand Specials though incentivizing their purchase, asset write-off incentives et al.

They had tariffs though. They should never have been lowered to the levels they were.

Prado is not any bigger? they are all the same class perhaps Fortuner/Pajero being a bit smaller, But Ford couldn't care less about them and Everest was built as a Prado competitor. perhaps it was lacking in the top end feature Kakadu had but now it has feature Prado doesnt.

Is Toyota still selling the Fortuner, do we know what last months figures were please?
Always found it strange that Toyota sold two similar mid sized SUVs in our market.

If you go by Vfacts, Everests ‘natural’ competition is Prado, so where does Fortuna sit?

Yes, still are.The strange thing with it though, it does absolutely bugger all in the sales charts.Same engine etc..Quite weird.Probably just as capable as Everest etc….

I actually like the look of the First Gen Fortuna, kind of like a 4WD Kluger but then they offered this Hilux looking budget version of a Prado.

To the Toyota faithful I would have been like turning up to a Porsche event in a Boxter

No, not around price, but the vehicle itself. The Fortuner is based on the Hilux, as is the Everest is based on the Ranger. The Prado is a Landcruiser, isn't it?

Yes, the Fortuner is still on the website. Just checked. You had me wondering, as I've only seen two since buying my Everest in May.

If the Prado belongs in the Everest, MUX segment then so does Fortuner.
Its only fair to then add Prado and Fortuner numbers together as Toyota is sharing its sales across 2 vehicles in one segment.
How do the numbers look now?

Toyota were sort of forced to join the party with the Fortuna. However, it was originally designed as a lower cost machine for markets other than Australia. As such, it was/is underdone in comparison to the added effort that went into making the Everest. So much so it elevated Everest to be competing on the same level as the more expensive Prado.

Everest made the Fortuner look like an absolute joke and has now moved above and beyond the ancient Prado. With that rattly and underpowered 2.8 diesel, I see no value in paying the price Toyota asks for the Prado.

Last month wouldn’t be a good month to do that
1. Everest………….1,312
2. MU-X.…………….1,218
3. Sorrento………..1,063

Clearly, Toyota had “down month” because of shipping supplies.
You know, the same excuses the Ford faithful here use…..

That’s not to be funny, I’m just pointing out that all companies have supply issues
but in a good month combined Fortuner and Prado sales would have to be +2,300

Interesting that Everest starting price ~$50,000 splits between Fortuner ~$40,000 and Prado ~$60,000
It’s a good strategy to position Everest at a price point that covers more or less the SUV version of Ranger buyers.

There is an issue with age of the Toyotas but I wonder if toyota buyers are less bothered by that, Ranger buyers
have been in similar situations in the past due to model timing and yeah, people kept buying the aging Ranger.

Toyota fan boi says no, she says the Everest is a “fly in the pan”, and that Toyota “rools” in that segment . Lol
