Considering the cost off shutting down and what its going to do to the brand they cant flip the bill for a bloody body kit....******.

This backs up the rumours of a hybrid XR6T/F6 aswell.

Its not the event itself, its how they are going about it. I mean seriously, they couldnt blow a bit of cash considering the history and what it means to us?

My passion for the brand will not go beyond the Falcons existance, just another brand, sure the product is competitive but the emotion is now gone. They can sex up the Mustang all they like, this has rubbed the polish off for me.

Yup. And there will be a limited edition G2T released in november called GT HP. With 930 rwkw and nine piston rear calipers. 930 will be made and will be priced at 29,990 driveaway less $5000 cashback. Yet noone will buy one so who gives a continental.

History repeats itself. I remember the last time, I see it this time, and have no doubt that economics will dictate change regardless of our passion. Guess the RSpec will be as FPV said "This is our HO", its iconic in style, colour and performance - just as GT was in 71 ! Respect to the H.O. for its bold statement, and the fact that atleast FPV gave us an 'in your face' contemporary revisit of the GT legend. Dont mind the HSV, but it has no history like the GT - full stop. Those bright red wheels just became a statement of the modern aussie muscle car, like the wild wing and shaker of the XY that my parents hated..lol.. May all the GT's now have their place in history before we are flooded with the imported cars like the Mustang (which looks pretty cool but aint Aussie).

Long live the GT!! Amen..

Damn shame but not surprising. If the rumours are true & they really are losing money on every Falcon sold why would they keep the GT any longer than they have too. Every Falcon sold just means more & more money lost so lets not sell any at all. Sad.

Will my BA GTP ever be a collectors item? Probably not but its never leaving my garage that's for sure.

Ford is preparing a nice bold Falcon next year with a S/C engine, most likely with killer looks,
what are we all to do, get behind that or throw stones at Ford for another three years..

It won at Bathurst ONCE.

XA won twice and Cortina GT won 3 times.
Not to mention the multiple wins by the red team.

Of course only a few really care about the Cortina GT as compared to the later XY Falcon it was quite slow, possibly even slower than a 6 cylinder Falcon.

Rather like the FG XT vs Phase 3 time trial on Top Gear really.

What is collectible and valuable in the future will be determined by the future as the people of that time look back.

What will determine future collectability, is what disirability it has to younger people today.
Do young people care about the Phase 3, letalone any current GTs?

Mate, they've blown more than enough cash already.

I'm sure the FH XR8 will be a pearler, and closer in spirit to the original GTs.

Thumbs up Re: FPV GT to be killed off early

The thin end of the wedge as they say..

Are we really all that surprised by the "possible" removal of FPV modified Falcons? I think the guy's at Geelong are being hit the hardest, I'm thankful to them and Ford for providing me with a great set of wheels which I plan on keeping for a long time.

I'm not going to bag out Ford because they refuse to keep losing money, that to me seems very unfair, and bagging any of the Ford imports to me is just being disrespectful to the members on here that do, or are considering to own them.

My support will remain with Ford, sometimes you just gotta take the good with the bad...

So FoA's trump card to the GT RSpec and FoA's swan song is going to be branded as an XR8? Serious?

...... should just call it a Fairmont Ghia and be done with it. By all means replace the GS but the last car that should come out of the plant should have GT on the bum ..... don't care if its FPV or Ford badge but the GT should be the last of the Fords produced ..... in my mind.

well i for one am glad that i took the plunge, ive always said mines a keeper & my 14 yr old already has his eye on it.. ive told him its his ..... ONE DAY WHEN IM READY!!!
i feel for the guys who wanted a fh fpv.. if i had not brought it & was holding off for the fh, id still go the xr8 but i have to admit if it looks like a common fh i reckon id feel a little disapointed as id have hoped for that difference & unique look the fpv's have

All that this uncertainty is doing is damaging the brand value of Ford/FPV.
For all we know, what is around the corner could be awesome. But with so much bad news at the moment, people are just speculating the worst. And Fords silence isn't helping.

I will hold onto my FPV till the day I die.

Maybe we need a line up of Falcons, one of every model lined up along the road on the way to the local vision media event next month to show the big wig from Ford who is coming out, what Heritage means.
There are many car companies that would kill for a model to have a 50 year heritage, and I am still surprised that there has been no effort to try to reverse their decision, by government or the people that love the brand through protests or car rally's.

Time will tell, but 40 years down the track and the REAL GT's are still the number one collectors cars in todays market.FPV's are a awesome attempt by Ford to sell cars but we all know they are just that a Nameplate to sell a car in todays market.Classic GT's will always have there place in History and especially the KING of Australian automobile history the P3

Love the Ford badge on your F6 in your avatar!

Yes, it is unfortunate that Ford have chosen to close Australian manufacturing, but they did so because Ford Australia was losing money. My support will also remain with Ford, and you're right in saying that you have to take the good as well as the bad. To me, that's what it means to be a "fan", rather than bagging or abandoning them when the going gets tough.

I'm at a loss. Let's go over this.

So basically Ford don't want to invest in a bodykit to suit the new design for the GT? Am I right? OK, so their logic is to call it an XR8 instead? Am I still right? Will the XR8 not have a bodykit? So just call it a GT and be done with it. What am I missing?

The people with the money in the next 10 - 40 years won't give two hoots about Bathurst or any racing pedigree. I love Phase 3s but I've never been one to watch cars go around a track - I love driving. Still love Phase 3s, XAs, XBs. But definitely not because they went around a track. Those days are gone. Welcome to the new world.

So basically Ford don't want to invest in a bodykit to suit the new design for the GT? Am I right? OK, so their logic is to call it an XR8 instead? Am I still right? Will the XR8 not have a bodykit? So just call it a GT and be done with it. What am I missing?
Nothing it's just a Ford thing they love making things complicated

There are many car companies that would kill for a model to have a 50 year heritage, and I am still surprised that there has been no effort to try to reverse their decision, by government or the people that love the brand through protests or car rally's.
I see what you're saying and I too would love Ford to keep making Aussie cars but they cannot reverse their decision. Sales have gotten so low that they are making a loss on each car. Unfortunately heritage, nostalgia and sentimentality don't pay the bills.
