Thought this would interest those gumby's on here who think that only civillians break the rules and that 5 km/h over the limit will kill you.

VICTORIAN police have been caught speeding 735 times and drink-driving 109 times since 2003. Some off-duty police were caught with a blood alcohol reading more than four times the legal limit.

WORST OFFENCES

POLICE SPEEDING (IN A POLICE VEHICLE)

■ 87 km/h in 50 zone (2003)

■ 126 km/h in 100 zone (2007)

■ 124 km/h in 100 zone (2003)

DRINK DRIVING

■ 232% (2002)

Better driver training and a Police Badge doesn't stop them getting a ticket, nor does it stop them from losing their license. NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW.

Not really a surprise. A copper in NSW did over 220kmh in the company car on the F6 with 3 other police passengers and was assigned office duty for 3 months.

I bet the percentage of both off and on duty police fined being caught speeding is probably around 1%

I don't need stats to know this, I see cops speeding and breaking the law on the roads every single day and it really ****es me off. Aren't they meant to be setting an example?

Yeah it's annoying but what do you do? I followed a cop car, passed a school and it was pulling away from me while i was on 40k's, also saw a female copper pull out of the station in a cop car driving talking on a pink mobile phone, i'm sure they're not part of standard equipment.

off topic but something that happened last week:

i saw a police car turn his lights on, do a u-turn and then turn them off! he just strolled away casually like nothing happened! ****ed me off SO much because if that was me doing it infront of him i would have got some rediculous fine and now with the hippies in control probably could have got a "hoon" lecture too. I've lost all respect for traffic police. Screw you all that disagree.

PS: This was in perth where u-turns are illegal (unless they have made a designated u-turn area which this wasn't)

saw the same thing whilst going to work last week.turned illegally at the lights ,using his toy lights,then raced up to the servo to jump into line to fill up.if i didnt see it,i probably wouldnt believe it.but our hands are tied,cause if you make a point about it,they just get your rego,and you suddenly get pulled over for the next month.have been thru it personally,and luckly i called there bluff in court,and all charges were dropped(on the morning of the case),accept one,from 5,but that was only a 250 buck fine,so i wore that.the only dropped them as i said a was bringing a witness that could prove that the charges were all made up,and saw the events.werent prepared to risk it ,if i was telling the truth.they 99% of the time never book another cop.been in a car when it has happened.so that figure since 2003,is way of the realistic mark.having said that,i still think they deserve a pat on the back,for putting up with the stupid attitude of our society today.the must care,if only a little.

Mate, every time I see a cop speeding, u-turn, etc, I'm right there behind them. Once chased a cop to 160+ on the motor way. Never been pulled over, and it was great fun. And my excuse is ready lined up "officer, I knew your car has it's speedo 100% calibrated and ready, so I'm just keeping up to see how far out mine is".
BS double standards me off so much that I just don't care anymore. Life's too short to say "ooh, ahh, but he did this, and that, and he shouldn't....blah blah blah...." I GO OUT OF MY WAY NOW TO GET THEM EGGED UP.

I've seen the same a few times and had it happen to me once - going the opposite way to me they put the lights on, then drove over double lines, within 9m of a railway crossing and turned them off again, just so they could check out my exhaust to see if they could ping me for something (which they couldn't - stock), so they then did another u-turn which was in a legal area, but didn't indicate.

As a kid I was on the back of a motorbike which my cousin, a cop, was riding at 240km/h over the Westgate (before the cameras and after the tolls!). We got pulled over, he flashed his badge and the other cop then spent a few minutes talking about the bike then waved us on...

It's hard to believe the 'few bad apples' analogy when you've never found a good one!

if a cop had to do an illegal u-turn with lights on to chase a crim i'm all for it, hell i'll get out of their way to make it easier if i have to but if it's like the instances i've seen where it's purely conveniance for them to make their way to donut king quicker, to hell with them, they should find their own bloody way around their problem legally just like the rest of us!

Why would you make such a statement? This is a constructive thread and it's well documented in the media. This is a good discussion, as there is one law for all.

Yeah I know. Too many goody goody two shoes on here, who have obviously never been fined for anything in their lives and go to sleep at 7pm.

I agree, if there is a crime: Do what you have to. However, if they left "us" alone, we'd leave "them" alone too. The Police should be trying harder to win community support and respect, which has faded in so many areas.

That said, you do come across a few good apples who will generally leave you alone, unless you do something really bad. But people who follow every rule to the book generally have no idea.

hhmmm ok, so 110km's (atleast) over the speed limit = 3 months in the office??? hell i should just do it all the time as i work in an office! wat are they gonna do?? stop me from becoming a rep in the next 3 months?? ohhh thats right, I would probably lose my licence!!! wat a joke!

If Police break the rules they like others are punished by the law and are then punished by ESD and the OPI. Drink driving can lead to loss of employment for police and I think anyone who drinks drives is an absolute moron!

That article even said that more than half were let off with warnings.. Damn I'd love to be let off with a warning for being 30+ over the speed limit. Instead I get 6 months suspension. PFFT.
Police officers are no better or worse than the rest of us... even though the majority think they are.

Yeah I agree. Drink driving is bloody stupid. So is drug driving.

But even you must see it amongst colleagues, that 5-15km/h over the limit is "normal" and "acceptable" in everyday driving situations.

In the last couple of years there were two very well documented incidents around here. One involving a HP officer booking an Inspector for doing 120+ on the Hume freeway!
