Default Barra Ghost cam tunes

As many people realize, you're only as good as the tools you use, and part of that is using the best tool for the job to get the desired results.

With the recent release of PCMtec tuning software, we have been able to access tuning tables in the Australian Ford ecu that were once non accessible.
As an example, we can now get full access to the camshaft control tables that control the VCT settings.
What that means is we can now adjust the cams to help with power levels or for modified camshafts to work better or even as a bit of a novelty give a "Ghost Cam Tune,"
What is a "Ghost Cam Tune"?
A "Ghost Cam Tune" is a tune that idles roughly like an "Old School" car used to idle like, once large performance cams were fitted, giving the tuned car an impression of performance.
We have attached a video showing the results of a quick adjustment to a otherwise stock FG XR6T, please notice though that this is just a quick adjustment and could possibly be improved upon with some more adjustments.
https://www.facebook.com/pitlaneperf...5918268392394/

What does that mean for you?

Here at Pit Lane Automotive and Performance, we can offer you the best way to tune your car based on your requirements as we can offer SCT, HP Tuners and now PCMtec as tuning software options when your car is tuned.

Ratter... Can a "Ghost Cam Tune" be added to a car that has already be tuned at not a high cost without having to retune everything again?

Thanks

I love these but 2 questions.
1. Can it damage the engine?
2. Can you do it on Miami's with no exhaust vct?

At this stage it appears it can be added to an existing tune but it would be flashed direct to the ecu

Great R&D Mick,

I am sure you will be able to get more out of an engine by adjusting the VCT through this.

Be interesting to see what you develop out of it in the future.

yes, there should be gains in the top end now we can control camshaft overlap, just need time to play with it

I've always felt there would be some money to be made if someone invented a device that fitted inside the exhaust piping and controlled the exhaust flow through two separate pipes in an alternating pulsating manner when idling to create that "Old School" V8 harmonic note.

Then as the throttle was opened, the device would fully open to unrestrict the exhaust flow.

I’m still most comfortable with SCT, but like to think I’m competent with HP and now PCMtec, HP still has a few tables that I use for tuning missing but they do fix things in most cases where they can.
PCMtec has more than enough but can not do ZF but this should change shortly.
I guess it gets down to exactly what a customer requires and using the best tool for the job.

This is great news and nice work on the FG XR6T above!

Would it be possible to have a Barra Ghost cam tune done on a dual fuel BA XR6T on JTG and be able to control the ghost cam idle on fuel changeover from petrol to LPG? If so, I might pay you a visit in the future!

It is not possible to do a ghost cam tune on a BA sorry, they do not have individual cam control

Actually it should be possible now. The late model FPV F6 BA has individual cam control and the strategy can be loaded back into a BA to give it full control of both camshafts. It was only a software limitation on the BAs, as they did have independent phasers.

This means ghost cam should work on a BA

Hi, which tuning platform would you recommend for the XR6 Sprint.
Looking at dump/cat, injectors and tune?
A ruff price if possible, more than happy to call instead if you prefer.

Hi, on this car I would be using the pcmtec software, it allows us to access all the tables that are part of the sprint strategy, if you call the shop on 9783 8122, Bel can discuss pricing and tune availability
