So far just a 2.3L EcoBoost for North America. 10 speed auto. Trims in XL, XLT, and Lariat. I bet something else will come later, whether it’s the 2.7EB or 3L Power Stroke.

I get the feeling that the images of that FX4 model are indicative of what the Raptor will look like. If you read the spec sheet for the FX4, there are some Raptor like additions as well as what looks like a coil sprung rear end.

There are people who just do not want an F150 or larger. They are physically too large for many situations.

The class of P/U the Ranger fits in is just perfect for many. These people will purchase another make instead of an F150.

Wrong assumption. Tyres are Hankooks and rear end is leaf springs, as you can see in the pics. The FX4 pack is unique to the US.

It has been amusing the last 18 months hearing people argue over wether it will have the 2.7 or 3.5 Ecoboost, and the journos saying it as gospel. Knowing full well it was only ever going to be the 2.3. Should be an option here, not everyone wants a diesel.

The lightest F150 base model 4x2 is about 200 kg heavier than base model 4x2 Ranger. They do get considerably heavier the further you go up the range though. The base F150's are very spartan inside and the top models are loaded to the max, plus V8 or twin turbo V6.

The aluminium body of the F series bought down the weight of them by 200kg at least. Even more with the bigger models.

It will be interesting to see if the US Ranger is lighter than ours as it has an aluminium bonnet and tailgate. Although that's probably offset by the steel front bumper.

Complete from scratch. Read the press releases, cause it sounds like it has had a fair bit of work done to it to suit the US market.

Chassis mods, alloy bonnet and tailgate, steel front bumper etc.

Having grown up as the son of a tree cutter, we always had pickups and larger. Good old fashioned steel bumpers and or steel cross beams welded across frame rails always came in handy on just about every job.

Don't think any dual cab utes here do, except the 70 series Landcruiser.

Can't see the need for it here. Cause you can just fit a bullbar if that's what you want. Most have them available as a dealer option.

Something tells me if I had a Ranger there, those front and rear covers would get replaced by a couple I beams.

The full width bumpers make good steps and tow/pulling points for certain things...hmmmm, what airbag trigger?

Makes a lot of sense you know.
Considering roo/bullbars are on nearly every 4x4 yet 90% never get out of the cities.
We've got to this ridiculous point in Australia where it's now mandated that bars must be pedestrian safe.

Bullbars should absolutely be designed to kill in my opinion. If you happen to hit some poor roo the last thing needed is for it to be left on the road with severe injuries and suffering. Which happens a lot now.
It's far more humane to kill them outright.

Most here don't need anything.

Certain parts of the country can be a nightmare though and ideally only big trucks should travel the highways at night. Not too far from where I am you get into "station" territory.
Stations are typically up around a million acres or more and they aren't fenced.

There a roo is considered small, camels, cows, bulls, emus.wombats can do untold damage. Anything goes. I know one bloke who was killed in his road train when he hit a donkey of all things. They tend to hang around the highway as the road is warm at night.
