The Mustang halo model is the GT350 and it ain't coming down under so hardly comparable.

First reviews are in, some journos got driven around with Ford engineers overseas. They have said it does not understeer and when it is in drift mode it behaves just like a RWD car. They say they have fixed the usual AWD issues in the RS.

You would have a point if the mustang wasn't 400mm longer and 100mm wider. It gives an idea how much heavier it is in its own class.

Safety, Rigid frame, tech, lots of power for the price means there's a downside. I'm sure they could have made it AMG A45 money and knocked off 100kg.

Hopefully they do an RS500 version like they did with the last one, and it actually comes here this time.

Isn't the A45 only about 20kg lighter than the RS?

Another thought - $50,990 looks like a better deal than the Mustang, when compared to the USA pricing.

I have seen in some places that the RS might be a limited edition thing.. Is this going to be the case? Or will it be a case of they will build as many as they can sell?

As many as they can sell.

I was just reading an article about it and the Ford engineers started off using rear diff bits from an Evoque, but after smashing them to pieces due to the torque loads they just built their own.

It would be dumb to knock people back on what should be the hottest hatch of the year.

Here's the problem on supply.....

There is only one plant that makes them - Saarlouis Germany.
Its a global car which, whilst not limited like the RS MKII, will be limited in how many we can get.
Australia is a small market and I recall one of the dealers theorizing that we may only get a few hundred in the full first year of production.
Essentially its the same supply problem that Ford have had with Wildtrack & Mustang.

My dealer said they won't even get a floor demonstrator model as they expect all first shipment models to be pre-sold (this possibly sounds like BS)

They mentioned that further manufacturing will be done to order.

I put down a deposit a few days ago to guarantee a car in the first shipment.

That's what I thought, this thing is meant to be the new thing and people seem to be buying this type of car....

Figured when I heard from other sources it was only going to be a limited thing I had to check it out on here...

If the thing wasn't too small for me I'd be looking at one instead of the new SS/XR8 type cars...

Unless you seriously need rear leg room. I'm actually surprised about the space.

Mind you the boot may suffer now with AWD.

Boot suffered in the previous one due to exhaust. Lost a bit of space.
The RS I believe even missed out on a space saver and had only the repair kit/goo.

So I would say rear space (not really what you would buy this car for I know) would suffer then. There would probably be a new floor stamping for this car.

I think you might be right, that could be the reason behind the build in another factory to the run of the mill Focus.

Could, or a capacity problem....seeing its world wide car.

Its good. German built, quick and manual. What more do you want?

Its built on the same line as other Saarlouis Focus's. The first prototype's were actually run down the line as ST's and converted to RS spec in the pilot plant, so no different sheet metal.

Watch the rebirth of a legend vids on Youtube.

Lucky for me I can ride out the initial deliveries. I want a Focus RS but you can get farked if you think I will wait months on end for it.

I will wait for a Ferrari, not a bogstock Ford.
