It's very hard to match power to quarter times, especially in a manual, and all the other factors that affect time..

I have 147.5rwkw, and i ran a 15.5 with 205's on the **** and shitty launches.. The 5 Speed makes it so inconsistent.. I need more practice.

Slightly off-topic, but i miss my car :( It's in the panel shop, and i won't have it back for a week and a bit :(

Isnt the MPH a fair indication of power? I swear someone has told me that before.

Say if you run 105mph then you have similar power to me who also ran at 105mph. This can sort of test the dyno figures cant it?

Lets not make this a thread on dyno readouts though.

Yes it is an indicator.. But you could still get 105mph (hence 202rwkw) by rolling over the line for 5 seconds really slowly, then floor it and run a 19 second pass, but still get 105mph.. That why, if someone runs a 14.3 @ 105mph, you know that they should be doing a mid 13.. What time you should be doing is indicated by the trap speed, and if the time is slower than what the trap speed says it should be, then you're having problems off the line with traction, or throughout the quarter mile itself with gear changes, etc..

Yes, it is. Terminal speed over 400m is a very accurate indicator of power. If the (raced) vehicle weight is known, power can be calculated from it.

Hey guys, i will give you a few examples of the love hate relationship of the drags

When I first got the car, I fitted a exhaust system and a airbox upgrade and it made 192rwkw. First time at the drags I went 13.89 @ 103mph

After the diff and clutch went, I got new LSD and fitted a heavier duty clutch. With the same 192rwkw, I went 13.44 @ 104mph

Then came edit a first tune of 221rwkw netted me a 13.22 @ 105mph

Retune later on achieved 234rwkw and got me a 13.08 @ 104mph

Now, with 240-250rwkw I ran a 12.92 @ 110mph

All of the above was done on the standard diff gears, full weight and second hand rubbish junk tyres pinched from the back of TyrePower.

Now with the 3.9’s fitted and a bit more tuning, I have achieved a best mph of 112.1

The diff gears made the whole quarter mile easier on the car and also quicker off the line. But with the poxy *** tyres, im only going slower due to loss of traction hindering my 60’ and ET.

My first ever runs with the 3,9’s got me two 13.0’s upfront, now to achieve that on the standard 3,46’s would take a few goes to master the launch as I was hitting 4th just on the line with the standard diff gears, where with the 3,9’s, I was using most of 4th maintaining a shift RPM 0f 6000

In turn, a proper setup etc tyres, suspension and weight loss will achieve a better ET.

Obviously I am basing this on my 1650kg SS and a different IRS setup to Fords,

Ah the days and lives of the drag racer/

Simon

Just a quick not as well, While laminge and I were at calder, there were turbo's pulling 79mph, but doing very good times, such as 13/14 sec passes.. I think it's because they pull so hard down the quarter and have a heap of torque?

Anyone care to explain?

Their weight makes a big difference. Ive seen small rotors pull 11's at around 100mph

that doesnt really make much sense.. dont you still need to be going fast to run a quick quarter?

If you dont have as much weight to move then your acceleration will be higher for a given amount of power which mean you are covering more ground per second. I think anyways.

kinda makes sense. you would still think that they would get to high speeds though.. but i guess its getting to that mph quicker... so really if you have a quick quarter and a lower mph.. it means your car has really good acceration, because its getting to that speed quicker?

0 to 79mph in 2 seconds, then sits on it the rest of the way :P

Thats it. Some cars can jump of the line real real fast, but cant keep up the acceleration. These cars will have fast times for their mph. Others are slower of the line but pull harder once they get going. These cars will have a high mph for the time they run.

Its like being fat.....You need more power to get moving and more power to keep you going over the lighter guy..you have more luggage to carry
