If your in mining do it or do as I have had to and follow the work. I moved 3500km away from family, friends and the wife moved with me just to keep work and not loose our house to the bank.
The mine im working at now id say 90% if not more are FIFO, the jumbo op has been doing it for years on a 2:1 roster and him and his wife and kids (Back in Melbourne) can handle it. They say FIFO is so bad yet everyone can always pack up and move their family to the work if its that hard on them.

I'm sure at this time of the year your family would be happier in qld than tas!

I've actually made a career shift at the start of this year & left my engineering degree behind. Anyway all the best up north where it's warm!

I could make $50K+ a year more doing FIFO but now I'm 10 minutes from home, any emergencys while I'm at work I can be home in under 30 mins from anywhere on site, home every night, in my bed with my wife and see my young bloke every day, and work an even time roster, the 50k isn't even a carrot I even consider following, if I had to I would but given the choice, not a chance!!!!

Clowns at barrow island planning on striking because their 26/9 roster is too hard for them.

I'll happily go do it if they don't want to.

So annoyed that so many STILL take their jobs for granted.

The real estate agent who said that “A house that was worth $600,000 during the boom is really lucky to get in the high $300,000s now" when he meant that they were gouging miners in the first place.

And in Emerald... "rents for a three-bedroom house have plummeted from $800 to $250 a week." In other words back to normal before greedy agents and landlords wacked the price up, because they could.

And the Motel owners who "used to charge $300 a night in the height of the boom, but now struggle to fill rooms at a measly $89 a pop" Same again, miners were earning big money and they wanted their share.

I've now relocated to Karratha for work. There's still a bit around here, as locals are preferred over fifo more nowadays it seems.

I'm currently working for GCS working in the scaff yard at KGP.

45hrs a week taking home really good $$

Rent up here has come down a lot too

No, but it is a decent site.

Our site ahs increased fleet....but staff has slowly been decreasing which is putting people under alot of stress.

But lets be blunt, there was a lot of fat in the business for a long time.

Something BIG must be on the horizon

Gummint is paying for labor hire mobs to refresh everyone's tickets up here at the moment.

I have added 3 new mining skills already this year and it didn't cost me a thing apart from petrol money...

Weird part is i have a couple of steady jobs so i dunno why they even contacted me ?
