Default "Grechie's Finally Getting Rings" Project! (56K WARNING)

Aii guys/girls, as you may know, i drive the Blue EB GT mockup, ive come to several cruises and meets incl all ford day n that, and as you probly would know, it blows alot of blue smoke (oil), due to the rings being fried.

When we bought the motor, it had a ACL full kit(new gaskets + pistons n bearings n all) reground crank, high comp, but only one catch to it, the oil rings were cooked, (the previous owner had it turbo'd n fried em). He said to us that it will use roughly 1 litre of oil a month, (yea right, if it was idling), i go through about 5 litres in a month, regardless of wot grade oil i use, (15, 30, 50,) which is bad REAL bad...(Derr)

Anyways, weve finally decided to deal with the rings and bearings, n get new ones, big job, so its gonna take awhile (the motor looks like a mess), a fairly long project as im also getting new valve stem seals too + new heavy duty clutch, gutting the lot...i thought id post the pictures n details of wen we took the motor out, my old man, hes 56 years old, but it only took him 2 hours to do it (started at 1030, was out 1230) with help from my friend Josh (blue overals) (94EDGhia) and me (yellow hat), not bad i say...so ill keep u's posted on how things go on this, weve given the block to my dads mechanics in lavo, to do new rings n bearings n timing seals n wot not. unfortunatly my car will be off the road for about 4 weeks+ but its worth it, to stop throwing oil n dissapearing in the distance with smoke! LOL

Hope You Enjoy (Yes, The Motor Looks Like a Complete Pig Sty)

some good progress there Grechie. Did you pull the motor with the gearbox attached or did you leave the box in there, if so how did you manage that ? Should be great once it's all back together, what clutch are you gunna put in it ?

we pulled the gearbox out and then the motor out with the bellhousing and s@#t still attached it was actually alot easier than i thought i remember we done an engine on a volvo at work and it took 2-3 days because i have to drop the subframe and engine all as one and there is a hell of alot more wires. but yeah should be realy good wen its finished.

yeah i got some ACL race series pistons the other day and they didn't have those marks. but the standard pistons that came out had the same sorta marks but that was due to the cam stopping and the pistons smashing the valves.

those marks are normal. you'd know about it if the valves were hitting.

Mate you have done well!

I started to take my motor out over three months ago... and I still have not finished!

It started as a "cam" job, fitted the cam and noticed a loose bolt in the timing cover.
Nipped it up and as it tightened it showed a huge crack in the cover.
No worries... replace the cover!
Removed the cover.... after having to drop the sump first.
Then noticed two pieces of metal chain tensioner wedged in behind the oil pump drive.....
Now it is a complete rebuild!!

Mate I keep changing my mind. :

At first I was just going to change the chain and guides... then I thought...
I've got the GT... lets go wild!

So the head has been ported and polished, I've shaved a little off too to get the comp up.
Now I was looking at throwing a turbo at it before I boughtthe GT...
I think I'd like to leave the turbo now and see how far I can push the I6 as is. :sm_headba

Mmmm, clean.

One other great adavantage of a rebuild it having everything clean again. Makes a car look soooo much better.
Also splash some paint here and there.

Very nice.
