4 revisions over 35 years (1963 to 1998 ) with air cooled engines,
3 revisions over 20 years (1998 to 2018 ) with water cooled engines.

I walked past a model 996 in silver earlier in the week, (year 2004 maybe) and thought how timeless they are, still looking almost the same as the latest ones.

Then this new 992 model, looking so similar to the previous 991 that it would take a while to spot differences other than the front bumper.

Also very similar exterior looks to the 997 with round headlights that came out in year 2005.

I'm just wondering if the sales of the new 992 will be down a bit based on all the more 'new' looking designs of various cars available at the moment?

Cheers,

The ****/rear on the new one looks great with the Led strip. Always liked Porsche.

That's one of the things I like most, they spend the majority of their time and resources on engineering a better drive and couldn't care less about appearance.

If only you knew sxr8.
As Mentioned imo motoring perfection for me as well.
Sex on wheels and performance to match.
Getting dumbed down due to tech for the early birds ala 80’s models were beasts to drive as a daily.
Loved those ‘86 whale tail models.

Porsche tried to find a successor for the 911. They released the 924/944/968 and 928 in parallel but people kept buying the 911. My dream car is a 911 Turbo type 993.

Although the 911 is pure car porn, I think is has become too big and heavy. In my opinion the 718 Cayman is closer to the original 911 than the current 991 and coming 992 versions of the 911.

Agree completely. The Cayman and Boxster S are more driver cars like the 911's of old. You can put it down to the lighter weight and lower power levels which give you a bit more to do with the right foot. That said I would still take a 911 over a Cayman or Boxster in a heartbeat even though the 986 Boxster S is still the best car I've ever driven through a bend.

The 924 was a horrible car. Probably slightly better than Morris Marina and Datsun 120Y since it was supposedly engineered by Porsche. The 924 had the same drivetrain as I had in my 1980s WV LT35 cargo van, an inline 4 by Audi. Lots of rust, and lots of parts falling off.

They just stand "fast" to me always.
As mentioned I love the ol girls but hard to maintain now/costs, GT2/3's went new levels what performance cars.
Your right, 911 in general has gone fat but still sexy as the Cayan's/Boxters now have progressed as they would have, balanced.

Agree with this - black over silver was a brilliant combination. A mates dad bought one new back in 1997 and I'll never forget the first time I went for a ride in that thing.

Such a shame their prices have recently gone through the roof with low km examples now over the 300K mark where they were mid-100's a few years ago.

Personally, I would however go one step further and go for a 993 Turbo S given they have a touch more power and are quite rare in Australia.

The 996/997 is a big miss for me as they felt a bit like a parts-bin special.

996 is too close to the boxster. I don't mind the 997 series.

911 is evolution, not revolution.

Not many cars out there have maintained and image and configuration as well as the 911.

Could almost say the Corvette is the only series that has maintained a constant design and configuration.

Once you've driven one, they make perfect sense.
No pretention, Just ruthlessly efficient in performance and driver feedback.

The only problem is the speed required to understand this. They usually only start to make sense at double the posted limits...

(Which is probably why the older "analogue" models are increasing year on year)
