Austin and Mick, with extractor bolts, dont worry about the ones that shouldve come with the exhaust, get some ARP 3/8" 12 point head extractor bolts (chev/ford same ones) in stainless or black, they are a bit dear at around $50 for 16, but they make life so much easier and last a hell of a lot longer.

Doint use the ford allen head ones! nightmares!

No probs! i know with mine, they screwed in all the way easy by hand and tighten even easier with a 3/8" ring spanner.

Yeah yeah shaddup :hihi: it was about 11pm when we started on that side of things and the motivation just wasn't there, so we left it. Like I said too, DF didn't supply me with any bolts for the headers so I would have had to reuse the factory ones and I wasn't keen on that.

Quote:
Looking forward to pics of it lowered, the black ute they came out of sat nice so no reason yours shouldnt be any different.
Yeah it is sitting very nicely. It will get a set of 19's one day so the height is quite practical for that.

Quote:
I didnt ask if you got the hotdog or the resonator tailpipe for the exhaust, but sounds like you got the resonator, which would be the reason why its quiet, so its an easy fix, get difilippo to send you the hotdog tailpipe and it will sound tough!
See I didn't realise there was a choice - was never told. It's got a dirty big resonator on the rear and I was so tempted to take the grinder to it last night while it was on the hoist but I couldn't bring myself to cut into that much money - If I had have known there was an option on tailpieces things might be different. Anyway, it is carboning up nicely and has a nice understated note to it, so I will put the headers and cats on, see how it sounds, and if it's still too quiet I will just lop that resonator off. I'm half tempted to do the tailpipes so they can't be seen from the rear end anyway for that clean look.

Quote:
Shouldve let me know if you were having problems, maybe you shouldve brought the ute down here, it would have been all done in a day!
Very tempting. Still got to organise that console too.

Im not sure if there is a choice to tell you the truth, its not quite, well, how can i say it, quiet enough with the hotdog , so maybe he doesnt offer that anymore?

You will have to ask darren mate, though you can always cut the resonator off and weld a hotdog onto it with a nice chrome twin tip on the end.

Ah the joys of working on cars lol, i did all mine over a weekend, even a dyno and some tuning lol, though i do it for stress relief! lol.

It will be good mate, not much to do now, get some ARP extractor bolts, refer to my preivious post!.

I'll get the geniuses at Rocket onto it on Monday. See what they send me

I've got some new badges coming for the ute too, just replacing all the factory ones as the previous owner painted them .

Nice downgrade Aust.
I know what you mean though ... the AU "felt" good to drive.
Will be watching this with interest. The old Wheezer can sound tough with the right mods.

Back to the old 5-spoke 17"s again ... de ja vu.

The FG XR 19's would look quite nice on this IMHO mate, doesn't scream "Cop Bait" either.

Hmmmmm clean ... would look tougher on an XR ute me thinks.
The FG 19"s are a nice clean rim ... and look tough as well.

Even the FG XR 18's would look good on it as well ... decked that is.

They would look good wouldn't they.

Fitted the MOMO wheel and changed the headlight globes tonight, also removed the ugly chrome pinstriping from the front grille (you can see it in the pics). Many thanks to philstoj for talking me thru the wheel change on the phone. I do have to take the airbag off again though as I didnt align the steering wheel buttons properly, so just need to clean them up and it will be right.

Got the old leather XR wheel for sale too if anybody wants it - $150 and its yours. In excellent condition, got it soaking in leather conditioner now.

So.... this is how it stood when I first bought it in terms of front end:

This is as it was yesterday:

What's been done:

MOMO shifter and wheel fitted - XR leather wheel and std shifter for sale
Difilippo catback fitted
deleted nudge bar - for sale, brackets still to be taken off car
deleted sports bars - for sale but currently spoken for
deleted XR headlight protectors - for sale, how's $40?
deleted weathershields
installed herrods lowering kit
installed camber kit
removed engine cover (to be painted)
ordered MSD coil packs
ordered new external badging
removed chrome pinstripe from front bar
installed Crystalvision bulbs

Still to do:

Source and fit new interior carpet - sourced but not purchased yet
fit headers and cats - have them but need to fit them
source and fit new header tank - current one is filthy
source and fit new intake pipe
finish rear exhaust (tip) - as per above
respray front bar
repair cracked sideskirt
replace interior plastics - console - sourced but not purchased yet
replace shifter boot (ripped)
source and fit short shifter
source and fit G&D CAI
tune car
new headunit - always available at work
new speakers - always available at work
thorough detail
19" wheels - be a while before these

and that should pull it up for a while!

Nice changes - good to see someone else working as fast on theirs as I was!

Let me know how much you want for the nudge bar - I'm still interested.

Oh, and I reckon you're asking around $50 too much for the standard XR wheel, but you may be lucky and find someone who'll take it.

Saw a nice AU XR6 today at the dyno day ... and noticed the guy has replaced the headlights with the crystal looking ones ... looks eleventy million times better than the standard diffuser faded headlights.

Another thing ... get a B-series egg-crate ... a bit neater and more compact ... OR ... PWR tank (along with other polished alloys under bonnet bits (ECU Cover, etc)

I wouldnt' call them 'Blue' as such, the bulbs themselves are blue so if they are turned off you can see a blue blob in the headlights (bulb ends), but the light is quite white and very usable. They are not ADR approved but I have had them in 3 cars now and never been pulled up for them.

In other news - MSD coil packs ordered this morning and will be here tomorrow, and I think I have found the part number for the ARP bolts phil mentioned for the headers. It's ARP-100-1202 and they are a 3/8 12 point black oxide bolt in a pack of 16. Just confirming that now and will order some.

Also chasing up a phenolic spacer for the manifold - part number is M-9486-A52 for anybody else who may want one. This is the Ford Racing 1/2" one.
