AU ute speakers

Hi guys. I was wondering if any of you had had experience with replaceing the 6x9 speakers in the rear of a supercab XR8? My mate has some pioneers to replace the factory speakers and was wondering how to get the surrounding panels off without breaking or damaging something. any pics?

I think you'll find that they are 5 x 7s.

But sorry, a ute is one of the few AUs I have not ripped the interior part.

I was told that they are 7x10 front and back. and i think it may be alpine make a special speaker to fit the au utes

The front door speakers are definitely NOT 7x10. They are 5x7 (or 7x5, if you like).

As for the rears - I wouldn't know fur sure, but I can't see Ford fitting anything other than 5x7 - why would they get a small quantity of other sized speakers when it would just be simpler to get the same size.

Having said that, wagon rear speakers are 4" round, I think - might be 5 1/4" round - it's been a while since I replaced mine, but I used 6" round and they fit (sort of).

definately 5 x 7 (mine arent any more)...

I'm pretty sure that the moulded carpet bit pulls out from behind the plastic sections... or you can pull the plastic sections off from around the small side window and the pillar first(they are held on with clips except i think there is one maybe two screws in the cover below the b-pillar) then remove the carpeted bit.

the bottom is held in by clips and can be pulled off, but the top is help in with screws behind the above plastic section if that makes any sense...

i shoudl know, pulled the interior of my ute apart a good 3-4 times now lol.... stupid stereo's

oh and btw, if anyone asks, two twelves fit nicely behind the seats of an AU ute :P

For future reference. Start at the top and pull off the bit that surrounds the seat belt. Then you'll be able to get at the screws on the top part of the bottom bit.

Wow ... big thread mine.

The XLS had 4 speakers ... so the XRs should have them as well.
There should be speaker grills in the side panels behind the front seats.

Yes the XR8's have rear speakers.

Yes they are 5x7's, exact same as the ones in the doors.

To get them out you need to pull out the grille covering the speaker and then remove the rest of the panelling. It then unscrews in the metal bracket that holds it - 2 philips head screws and you can unplug the speaker and pull it out while it's still in the metal bracket.

Then you fit your new speaker into the bracket, plug it in, screw the bracket back on and you're done. I usually (and will with my new ute) put a fair whack of sound deadening material in the cavity too as it is HUGE.
