I have no doubts a stinger will obliterate it, in every measurable way, name something it does better?

Id take the stinger over that old tank anyday. Plus $1.95m in my pocket.

Are you saying there's shenanigans afoot? Sale fell through?

well if I was Lloyds I would be proudly spruiking how successful their auction process was if such a sale went through. in the last 12 months a number of cars have supposedly sold through this facility yet reappear

From what i can make out AMCS was bound by a confidentiality agreement, doesn't matter that the sale was known about, what matters is that no one learnt about it from AMCS until now.

Here's food for thought, how much these classics going to be worth when internal combustion engine vehicles are banned from our roads and you can't buy unleaded?

I'm aware these garage queens aren't driven and are more like art/investments but still, makes you wonder.

Or their values when all the people who grew up idolising these cars are dead.

Kinda like 1930s/1940s cars except for a few notable exceptions for particular cars, anything on the other side of those is worth nothing.

It went up for auction with Lloyds in 2018 and was reported as sold for $2m+, but that sale fell through...I don't think it happened twice.

Edit: And at a guess may go some way to explain the delay in AMCS announcing the sale....

The factory converted it to phase 4 spec as a development vehicle. Might not be plated as a Ph4, but it's a Ph4 if the factory made it one. And if the factory says it's a Ph4, it sure as hell is one.

Good simple explanation, like your thinking!!

Would you go to say it is similar to a modern day FGX Falcon going down the production line as a bare body, then given to FPR/Tickford to turn into a V8 Supercar although the race versions are no longer similar to their road going brother as they were back in the day. If it was the same you would still call the race car a GT even though it did not come down the assembly and ID'd as a GT as such.

My dad worked in stamping and structures engineering in the stamping plant. Back in the 90's when the racing cars were still production based vehicles, one of his jobs was to get some parts made up for the race car shells. The teams specified what they wanted the shells to have, and what they wanted to have them built without. Various bracketry etc was removed from the race car shells to remove weight, or if it was going to be replaced with something else. So the shells were specifically made to the race teams specs. But most likely those shells were built without tags. They were a specific race shell. They might have had some form of identification, but most likely not a VIN tag, cause they were not going to be road registered.

We used an AU Falcon 'Motorsport' shell as a base for a modified production Speedway car.
From what I remember it had no plate but was stamped with a prefix relevant to the owner/builder, so for us it was KRJ (initials of the owner) then 1, 2, 3, and so on as new shells were ordered

They may one day be banned from public roads for regular daily use however I’m sure something will be put in place to allow such cars to be driven either on private roads or special racetrack days to let the public enjoy seeing and hearing them. It's no different to allowing steam driven trains run on the Victorian train public transport network for charity days etc...

I have no doubt it will, it just might become too expensive to dig it up, and by that I don't mean necessarily the mining/refining/distribution costs alone, but rather the "artificial" extra costs of taxes/excises/congestion levies/penalties for fossil-based fuels etc...
