G'day all , We were discussing the Mustang today as we look forward to a brand new Tickford Mustang as one of the drawcard vehicles for our Annual Cranks and Tinkerers St Marys Car and Bike Show on Sunday.
Several Ford Car clubs will be there in numbers , not least the Mustang guys and gals and around 300 cars are booked in. The lack of an obvious Ford emblem on the later Mustangs is a curiosity that prompted me to try and find out a bit of history of the famous Blue Oval emblem in general.. Then I recall many early Falcons didn't really display the Blue Oval that much either or did they ? My first memory of front and rear emblems was the XC Falcon and Mk2 Escorts and Cortina's in the late 1970's.. Knowing me , I'll probably be well and truly corrected on that.. I also have memories of some British Fords with a Red Oval though. A local has a 1949 Australian built Anglia with Red Ovals on the old girl. I know S197 (2005-14) are Blue Oval less and S550 obviously.

I suppose its like the Falcon not having an emblem in its last era.
Things have changed in the world of motoring, and I dont like it.

The Mustang is strong/iconic enough to be a brand in its own right hence now blue oval badges.
The XC 1/2 was the first of the blue ovals on Falcons. If memory serves, the TE Cortina and MKII Escort got the blue ovals first although they didn't initially have them, Edsel Ford II was the man to instigate it. I don't think that articles accurate neither, the logo subtlety changed a few years back. Pretty sure it was before that 2015 article. Last edited by Kieron; 09-06-2017 at 11:26 PM. |

Early Louisville trucks like the L series and the less common (in Oz) W series didn't display the blue oval badge.

G'day all , Thanks for the replies...The Mustang has had the emblem at times I believe but I agree , the pony badge is a stand alone signature in itself.
I started scrolling here https://www.google.com.au/search?q=f...w=1366&bih=662 and if you look you'll see different shades of blue background and the differences of the "F" (mostly the way they do the crossover tail on the F) etc over time. I suppose there are even collectors out there who chase certain ones. I also agree that there has been subtle changes since 1976.
