Most Auto Parts stores carry Headlight Restorer Kits by Mothers and Meguires or Turtle Wax which do a good job.

Cheapo toothpaste will do it, just polish on with some elbow grease.
This is only temporary though and the Meguires kit is the stuff you want for a more permanent fix.

Turtle wax one is ****. Used it 3 times now. Trying the Meguires next.

I used turtle wax on the AU XR8 with pretty good effect - about 90 % improvement
I think most of the 'kits' sold for this purpose include some manner of wax/cutting compound and then possibly a cleaning compound and some sort of protective coat or film to put over the newly polished lens Main thing is to polish the plastic back gently with a a GENTLE cleaning/cutting compound. I think turtle wax (or any other car polish NOT sold as a cutting or 'fast' compound would fit the bill Once they're done a set of headlight covers may largely prevent further deterioration since (I think) the covers maythen cop the UV instead of the headlights, as well as stone/sand damage also. |

As LG17 said, I used a cutting compound to restore the lights on my mothers car. It was a 3M branded compound that I got from work, not sure it's grade though.
It was done using a DA buffer with an orange pad. I used Menzerna power lock to protect it only because that's all I had on hand. Not sure how long it will last for though. Cars always garaged and not left outside much so should be ok for a while. Last edited by nitro50th; 04-11-2017 at 09:16 PM. |
