Default Rare Ferrari Stolen From Melbourne

Rare Ferrari once owned by Princess Diana’s lover stolen from Melbourne workshop

9NEWS
6 November 2015

A prized Ferrari, once owned by Princess Diana’s lover, Dodi Al Fayed, has been stolen from a workshop in Braeside, Melbourne.

The $2.5m car, a 1972 GTB/4 model, was one of two cars taken during an early morning raid.

The Daytona Ferrari was also once owned by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, and is one of only five of the same model in Australia.

Its owner Enzo Cerevolo said the theft was devastating, particularly after he spent five years restoring it.

“It’s everything – I’ve been working all my life,” he said of the car.

“Cars like this always have a history, I always dreamed to own one, and finally I got one and as soon as it was ready it got stolen.”

Workshop mechanic Philip Hughes was also upset.

“It’s heartbreaking, I’m just a small guy working on my own.”

Thieves rammed the garage door about 3.15am, and took off with the Mr Cerevolo’s car and a Ferrari 328.

One of the Ferraris was spotted about 8.30am in Iluka Ave, Patterson Lakes, but disappeared by the time police arrived.

It was then spotted about 11am travelling south on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, towards Frankston.

Mr Cerevolo’s car has black and white English registration plates PLL1OL, and the other Ferrari has plates FUN328.

Victoria Police is investigating.

“They could be in someone’s backyard or in a factory – keep a lookout, they’re quite distinctive,” Detective Senior Constable Phillip Wilkinson said.

Mr Cerevolo also asked the thieves to return his car.

“You don’t appreciate these types of cars, you had your fun, please return it back,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 FREE.

Thieves set fire to stolen $2.5m Ferrari in Langwarrin

A FERRARI worth $2.5 million was stolen and set on fire in Melbourne.

The red 1972 365 GTB/4 model Ferrari was found burnt out in Gum Hill Drive Langwarrin this morning after being stolen from a Braeside repair business at 3:40am on Friday.

It is believed the Ferrari was once owned by Princess Diana’s boyfriend Dodi Fayed and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. It had been in the shop for minor repairs.

The thieves also stole a red 1986 328 Ferrari with the numberplate “FUN 328”, valued at more than $100,000, which is still missing.

The burnt-out Ferrari is taken away.

It is believed the offenders rammed a roller door to gain entry to the business.

Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives are continuing to investigate

Seems odd..yea i know scum in general are not over endowed with brain cells but seems a tad risky just to set fire to a car, that or the thieves have more cheek than a fat mans ****,either way i agree on the "burn them" thing.

Whoever stole it must have known it was there.
Time to start a private investigation and hopefully catch the diseased vagrants.

He'll be out before the car gets restored.

Lets hope his cell-mate was kicked-out and banned from the Hells Angels for being too violent and he's old-school Italian with a passion for classic cars.

not a lot of forensic evidence left if it is burnt. No skin or hair to get dna samples.

Hmmm, so let me get this right;

A rare $2.5 million Daytona, is in the shop for minor repairs, then that very night someone acting on a spur of the moment decision rams through the garage doors, steals it and then burns it rendering it unrepairable... I guess the keys were in the ignition too.

The Insurance Company will be all over this.

The news interviewed the shop owner who said the car was not in going condition and who ever stole it spent some considerable time doing some assembly first to be able to start and drive it.

I think the car possibly became too hot to keep and they tried to destroy it and all evidence of the thieves.

The other lesser car is yet to be found.

It makes no sense to burn it. I realise they want to get rid of any forensics, but all they have to say was they got a lift in it, but don't burn it.
Cars like this can never be replaced, a Commodore or Falcon can, but not this.

Two things I don't understand?

1. Why burn it?
When they learned that it had no resale due to being so rare, why not just leave it to be found.

2. Why were two Ferarri's so easy to take?
Strange that they were in and out in 4 mins, not quick at all. They had time to check other cars too!

Very common...destroys evidence. Why steal it? For bragging rights among their car thief mates.

Surprised they got it so easily?
You...do realise how recently in car history stuff like electronic immobilizers and even proper ignition/steering locks are? When that car was built it would have had...by todays standards...very rudimentary "security" measures.
Any alarms or immobilisers fitted would be familiar modern devices that any car thief worth his salt would know how to work around. In fact with an old car it's probably very easy to bypass any modern security devices fitted and start the engine with a few crossed wires.

If that car was worth $2.5 Mil then it should have been treated much the same as a box of cash.

If they were in and out in 4 min then that $2.5 mil worth of car was no where near secure enough.

It may be insured for $2.5 million but current pricing suggest $2.5 million would be on the high side.

Doubt they took it knowing what they actually got. Amateurs burn cars!

I refer to how it was kept/stored. I have stricter security on my E-Series!

I would believe that this was worth a lot of money, the $400,000 estimate is too low for the Daytona. I've seen a Daytona repaired at a cost of US$950,000, and they don't spend that sort of money if it doesn't make them more valuable. What an absolute waste. Hope they string these guys up by the nutsack and let em swing.
