Default Triple M radio station to close

Just heard that MMM will be closed so a ethnic radio station can use its spot on the dial : :

Its a joke. Is just a radio promotion. MMM are one of the largest stations, they are not going anywhere.

its possible but they where being audited and they needed 50,000 listeners to register on some site to remain on air but they didn't get the numbers
Just carn't see why they would use that as a joke but you could be right

As a hardcore listener of MMM (Sydney) for over a decade I wish this were true. In the last couple of years they have gone from a decent rock station to playing soft c*** music. I find myself using my CD player a lot more just because I can't stand the high rotation dreck they're serving up.

If it weren't for Tony Martin and Molloy I almost would not listen at all. I can't wait for the time when wireless internet radio will be a viable option for radio in cars.

MMM has one or two of the highest rating shows (the shebang and the cage) so I doubt that they are going anywhere, also they are owned by Ausstereo, same people who own Fox so there is plenty of money there.

I realise J is next to M, but they're no excuse for not editing all your posts.
Triplej all the way I'm afraid.

If it has adds, it can be switched off.

Its just a 3MMM promotion. The 5th ratings survey (8 surveys per year) came out a few weeks back, and they fell to 8.9% share of radio listeners. This is compared to 9.1% in June (on par with Nova100). Just as a reference point, 3AW has 16% share and Fox has 11.7%

8.9% equals around 55,000 listeners compared to 57,000 it had in June. (so they already have over 50,000 RADIO listeners, because this does not including web streaming)

The promotion has been designed in a way, as some people who listen to TripleM would have a slight racist attitude towards people of ethnic background, moreso compared to those who would listen to Nova for example.

Six, seven, years ago JJJ was awesome, you heard all of Triple Ms "New Bands" six months before they hit the commercial air waves.

Triple J has lost its way though, they were always an Alt station, now they try and be everything, which results in them mainly being a vehicle for very bad indiginous "Hip Hop" hitting the airwaves (just 'cos it ryhmes, doesn't mean its good).

I think I remember then, sort of played the same music channel V on foxtel did. Was always out months before it hit the singles chart. Nova seem to be more that type of station now.

Triple M & Fox FM are in the same building in St Kilda - same owner - same situation.

I don't listen to either of them anymore

I don't think I've heard a bigger load of crap on the Forums before. Firstly, what amazing powers of deduction tells you that MMM listeners are likely to be more racist than Nova listeners? Secondly, if you think the management of any radio station would sit there and say "hey, for our next promotion lets play on people's deep-seated racist tendencies to boost listening numbers" you're even more off base than I thought. Particularly in a city that is probably the most multicultural in Australia.

As a matter of interest, the "fall" you mention is not even relevant. Movement of up to 0.3 or 0.4 of a percent is fairly common and often reflects statistical variances. Its once the movement gets to 0.5 or more (- or +) that it starts to have more relevance.

Yeah Bro, plenty of good, as well as crap. But NO ADDS Thursday nights from 10pm to 1am the "Roots 'n' all" show is excellent... Blues, reggae etc...

JJJ is good, Jay & The Doc are awesome, well i personally think so, loved Frenzal Rhomb...

I jsut got over every radio station playing the same songs over and over and over, plus im one of the annoying ones that always has the line " pfft, heard it 6 months ago on JJJ "

commercial radio is exactly that, commercial, hence why i listen to very very little of it. Cant stand adds, but thats just my opinion.

When iw as younger i used to thrive on MMM, untill they went soft....
