Default Government rejects Milo Yiannopoulos Visa - then backflips?

I thought this was interesting - Government blocked Milo Yiannopoulos from entering the country by denying his visa on character grounds due to the protests that occured in 2017, then Victoria Police tries to pin a $50K bill on him because of the cost of Victoria Police at the protests.

Quote:
In their letter to Yiannopoulos, the department said protests at his 2017 Melbourne event “involved violence” and injured five police officers.

“Victoria Police issued Mr Yiannopoulos with a bill of $50,000 for the cost of policing his event in Melbourne,” it said. “Mr Yiannopoulos was reported in July 2018 to have not paid the Victoria Police bill.
Why he is responsible for the bill when it was the protesters who decided to cause mayhem is anyones guess but anyway.

Then the Government has back flipped and appears to have granted his visa over some public outrage?

While I don't agree with everything Milo Yiannopoulos says, I don't appreciate the Government telling me who I can or can't listen to by trying to reject people under crappy reasons like 'the character test' then using the protests as an excuse, the issue isn't Milo, the issue is the protesters themselves.

An interesting side note about that venue, it hosted Milo Yiannopoulos for his Melbourne tour, the protesters caused issues outside of it, then last Friday night three people were shot and one murdered there, seems to be having a rough run lol.

This comedian covers it fairly decently:

What are your thoughts?
