Post Toyota cuts Fortuner prices by $5400.

The Toyota HiLux has been a runaway hit for the Japanese brand, but it's SUV sibling has been crowded-in by Toyota's wide range of off-roaders.
The Japanese car maker is now looking to give the Fortuner wagon a boost with a range of 2018 model year updates and fresh pricing.
In an attempt to stem the flow, pricing across the range has been slashed with discounts of at least $5000, while all model grades have had equipment levels boosted slightly.
ADVERTISING

The entry-level Fortuner GX now starts from $42,590 before on-road costs when equipped with a six-speed manual, a six-speed auto adds $2000. New gear includes 17-inch alloy wheels which replace the previous steel wheels and rear park sensors. The new price is $5400 cheaper than before.
Carry-over standard features include cloth seat trim, cooled glovebox, Bluetooth connectivity, six-speaker audio, steering wheel audio controls and projector headlamps.
Mid-grade Fortuner GXL models are now $5500 cheaper, starting from $47,490 for the six-speed manual, the auto again adds $2000. The GXL adds satellite navigation, digital radio and Toyota Link connectivity features via a 7.0-inch touchscreen.
The GXL also comes with keyless entry and start, roof rails, fog lamps, a colour instrument cluster display, rear privacy tint and downhill assist control.

Toyota Fortuner Crusade new car review
GXL variants can be optioned with a premium interior package that includes dark brown leather-trimmed seats and electrically-adjustable front seats for another $2500.
The range-topping Fortuner Crusade is available as an automatic only and starts from $56,990, which is $5000 less than before. New features include heated front seats with power adjustment, LED fog lamps (replacing halogen fog lamps) and an 11-speaker JBL audio system.
A powered tailgate, bi-LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, climate control and leather trim (in fawn or brown) are also part of the Crusade’s equipment list.
Under the bonnet, all Fortuner variants continue with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine (shared with HiLux and Prado) producing 130kW of power and 450Nm of torque when paired with the six-speed automatic, or 420Nm for manual versions.
Official fuel consumption is listed at 7.8L/100km for the manual and 8.6L/100km for the automatic.
To the end of September 2017 the Toyota Fortuner has tallied just 1960 sales, a decline of over 40 percent compared to this time last year, putting it behind Toyota’s own Kluger (9136 sales) and Prado (12,071). More importantly is also trails direct competitors including the Holden Trailblazer (2311), Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (5489) and Isuzu MU-X (5829), all of which have managed to grow sales year-on-year.
2018 Toyota Fortuner prices
Fortuner GX manual - $42,590 (-$5400)
Fortuner GX automatic - $44,590 (-$5400)
Fortuner GXL manual - $47,490 (-$5500)
Fortuner GXL automatic - $49,490 (-$5500)
Fortuner Crusade automatic - $56,900 (-$5000)

It is a bit odd that I see sr5 hiluxs everywhere but not the fortuner. Colorado 7s, the mux and trailblazers aren't uncommon and the everest is common sight. Toyota has always been a leader when it comes to cars like that but they jumped on the band wagon later.

Fleets don't need these cars. Not do they get tax breaks on them.

I can understand that, you can't park in a loading zone as its not a utility or a station wagon but with the reputation that Toyota have why do the other utility based wagons get such a better following? I'm not eager to buy a Toyota and my ranger is a work car and I have no say in what I drive for work. But I just find it odd that the market has brushed passed the fortuner.

Fortuner promises 7.8L/100 what's he comparing it to? Sounds like he bought the wrong car.

Since my question wasn't answered above ill point out that the Fortuner offers the best fuel economy on a 2016 comparison between:
Ford Everest Trend v Mitsubishi Pajero Sport v Toyota Fortuner v Isuzu MU-X v Holden Colorado 7
https://www.4x4australia.com.au/revi...omparison-test

Now that's its cheaper it would probably win in this comparison

The Fortuner would have to one of VERY few products from Toyota that hasn't been a success.

In most cases they lead or are in the top three of each segment they play in. The Fortuner just hasn't fired for them. Perhaps they just have to many players vying for the same customers. There is a fair amount of overlap between Fortuner, Kluger and Prado. And thats even before you consider Rav 4 and Landcruiser could also be cross shopped in the same showroom.

Prado: Japanese Built, brilliant quality
Kluger: American Built, adequate quality
Fortuner: Thai Built, secondrate third-world junk

That would be my guess.
Those who don't need a serious off roader would opt for the Rav4 and those who do and want diesel would opt for the Prado.
As these two have been around for 20 years and Toyota buyers tend to stick with what they know, the in-betweens don't have the same following.

I wouldn't call the Fortuner Junk.

Remember Hilux is built on the same line as well as another Vehicle we don't get called the Innova

In Asia you will see loads of Fortuners & Innova's on the roads.

I'm malaysian and an avid pringles eater, but I went cold turkey when pringles moved production to Malaysia, and they become smaller and tastes disgusting and to add insult to injury, they are the same price as the American made ones. To me the real Pringles are American made and anything else is fake regardless of what official badge it's wearing. Corporate greed is sickening.

Yes, those two are completely off the menu for me, along with thai focus, thai fiesta, the new fake thai corolla, and post 2005 pretender hilux. Euro built focus and North american f-series and current gen explorer for me, none of this third world product.

I sat in on a practice run launch presentation by a Toyota marketing exec, intended for dealers. The Fortuner was intended as a reaction to the Explorer but the presentation spent most of its time explaining how squeeze it into the Toyota line-up.

People who get a Hilux want it more as a workhorse. They put up with the rough edges if it does the job well. The Fortuner is a passenger vehicle and I'd think the buyers in the segment aren't as interested in rough edges of the platform it shares with the Hilux
