Default "97 HSV Maloo V8 ute

The publican up here is trying to get it going. Has sat for a few years, and his X threw away the keys. He's pulled the dash apart and is half cluey. Wants to bypass the immobiliser. Can it be done ???.

I suggest that he gets personal advice from someone who is full cluey.
What you are asking for, is a post on 'how to steal a Maloo ute' information.
I hope that no-one is silly enough to put that on a public forum.

Model VS8VK80-725 9/10/97 6H8VSK80UWL271596. He's a country publican, the cops and Licensing inspectors know what's in the yard.

He, you, the cops, the inspectors all may know. I'm not saying that you or anyone else is 'stealing' a car.
But putting up the info you are after on a public forum is not recommended.
Why ? Because there are uneducated dick wits who could use that info to rip off a similar car.

On a more practical note, as he has the VIN, and possibly the security code, or this info can be supplied from Holden, and a new key and immobiliser obtained.
Somewhat easier than pulling half the dash out, and maybe causing damage.

Country publican, no money at all. He's sold it to some guy who wants the motor, he just wanted to hear it running again. He's an electrician who's worked on boats, he "half" knows what he's doing. Can fix most electrical problems on older cars.

for the amount of effort just to run it to sell the engine i wouldn't bother

the engine is a 304? they are worth $1000 complete running or not, a rusted out block at a wrecker is about $600 and a nice runner with loom is $1200, chuck in $300 for the auto as its the unwanted electric 4 speed auto you can't give away unless its a T5 and worth about $800
these are sydney prices so may not be relevant in the country and based on my personal research in the last few months....so very approximate

p.s. 6 months ago we got a 195i from a VT for $1200 with 3 months warrantly from Wollongong with all electrics less auto

Being that late in the VS run, it will have the ISS system (touch key in the console storage bin) that you need to reactivate every now & them (like when the battery goes flat, or you need to code a new key).

Without the corresponding code key for the ISS, he will need an auto electrician to remove the ISS and rewire what they cut to make it run again.

The level of understanding required to bypass this is beyond anyone who has to post a "how do I" question on a forum - it cannot be easily learnt, and takes experience, and knowledge of wiring systems. Even with the factory Holden & HSV diagrams, the first time I was faced with one it was quite daunting, and I've done numerous EFI 5L conversions with wiring into various cars.

He really has 2 choices - spend the $$ for a local auto sparky, or accept a lower offer from a buyer on the motor. You can still trigger the starter motor (use a paperclip or loop wire from terminal 30 to 87 in the starter relay socket) so with a decent battery, he can still turn it over & do a compression test. You'll learn more about the condition of the motor from a compression test than starting it.

It's no big deal, a mechanic is buying the whole car just for the motor, the body is pretty straight but. He's already been paid, I don't know wether I or 2 grand, good mags and rubber on it off a Statesman he 's got. A manual, the ute would still drive OK {he thinks}.Got a good hardtop.

This guy collects Holdens like some of you collect Fords. He's got 3 other utes and a station wagon all about the same year.

CommodoreNutt is on the money, the security system added to the HSV's is a bugger of a thing to get around, easier to find another ute and hijack the entire vehicles wiring and do a swap
