We went to join at our local a while back and they wanted to know what I do for a crust. Why would they want to know what I do for a living when signing up as a member........we just wanted a meal. Cheers

So they can work out marketing strategy for their club base + probably sell their data base to marketeers who will then annoy you with products relevant to your industry.

Who cares?
If they ask and you don't have a problem providing the information, then there is no issue. If you do have a problem, then move on. Again, no issue.
