Default Heat in the Mickey Thompsons

Hi Everyone,

I'm running the Mickey Thompson Street Et Radials on my car. Someone said to me that I wasn't putting enough heat into them in the burnout. Someone else said that they don't need much heat. Any advice would be appreciated.

Big first burnout, at least 5-sec big smoke, then little after that. High speed burnout, rev it out.

They get worse when too hot
Slicks like more heat
Buy a cheap temp gun and get someone to monitor while you are staging

Thanks for the replies everyone. Just changing the subject, at the last meeting I couldn't believe the difference changing the tyre pressure made. I went from 24 psi on the first run and getting bad wheel wheel spin, to 20 psi on the second run about 3 hours later and they stuck like glue. Admittedly the air temp was also slightly cooler and whether the track temp was also slightly cooler I don't know. A lot to learn.

we usually run 17psi, 3200lbs, 275, 15x10

They definitely hook, we found no difference between them and a slick in performance. weight is different about 6kg

I found 17psi cold which is around 18psi after burnout is the go on a decent track, running 275 MT Pro radials, 3900lbs, 1.3s 60ft 15x9.25 rims but I'm looking at getting a set of 15x10s as Paulie said! Burn out short and with decent wheel speed. You don't need to see big smoke, some of my mates call my burn outs soft, I just reply but I wana go fast!

I get best results around 20psi warm, 3960lb car, 275/60/15, 1.4s 60'

For 400 - 450rwkw in a Zf Miami sedan would I unstick 265/40/18 ET 2s?

I want to buy my first set of drag radials and mount them on 18x9.5 +38s

Would I be better squeezing a 305/35/18 on the rim, or does the bulge it would get on a 9.5 inch rim make the 265 a better choice?

the more sidewall you can get the better. M&H make a decent radial as well for IRS cars, check out VPW. Pretty sure they do a 275/40/18 and 275/50/18, either will suffice.

I guess I was hoping to keep similar diameter as the front so I can drive it to the track, but a low profile sidewall is probably too much of a compromise?

Do you have to run a 18" rim?
For best results, the shortest rim you can fit over your brakes with the tallest tyre you can fit in the guard
A taller tyre gives more rubber on the track also

Yeah, I've got 4 piston brembos on the back which other than a few notable (and expensive) exceptions need an 18

I'll probably just get the wheels, dummy fit a steet tyre and then measure what it will take from that.

So sounds like the message is height before width.

If I turn DSC off will it drive to the track ok with way taller tyres on the back?

Both height and/or width help
Do whatever fits

She should be fine driving on the street to track. Sidewall is good to a certain point then start going width. Put it thithis way they are running 4.8@163mph to half track on a 235 radial

Dsc = dynamic stability control

It thinks different tyre sizes are a fault cause of different speeds
