Default (08) 6228 4112 - scammers?

I received a call from somebody claiming to be from Telstra. Was this a legitimate call?

Did they say something along the lines of; "I'm calling from Telstra's technical department and we've received complaints that your computer is sending out viruses over your Internet connection, blah, blah... "

If so... Then yes it's a scam.

Looks to be a call centre. Google the number to see the many complaints lodged.

Suggest ignore.

I have a simple rule. If it's a number I don't know, I don't answer it. Calls then go to message bank and if it's important or legitimate, then they'll leave a message.
If it's scam, survey or telemarketer, they don't. Haven't had to deal with any of these types of calls in years.

I noticed there's always a slight delay before the scammers say anything after I've said hello so now I pick up the phone, say "hello" then hang up if no one responds within about 3 seconds.

Also works if you pick it up and say nothing for 5 seconds. If its a person they will say something, if its a computer they think the line in inactive and will hang up.

unfortunately the libs change the ruling on this from a flat out do not call to no sales and to legally get around it they start of with this call is not to sell you anything but ……… now how do you like that and ill put you in touch with a sales person now then
or the classic one for third company sales for Telstra
im ringing about your account your in no obligation but theres a better plan you could be on

Haha, my brother taught me that trick.

So one day the phone rings, I answer...hello, no response for 3 seconds, I hang up.
Phone rings again, I answer....hello, he (brother) says why did you hang up on me?

The Federal Do Not Call Register is a as useful as tits on a bull.
The caller has to be registered and so this precludes overseas scammers or unregistered Aussie ones.

I recently received a call on my mobile from a Chinese woman/computer who went raving on in Chinese. Intrigued, I waited for a while to see if it changed to English and even swore at it in a filthy Chinese swear word I know and nothing happened, so I guess it was a computer.
