Default $3000 302ci engined Ford Capri running low-11's @ WSID 7/7/10

sick of playing around with our EFI cars all week, we thought we would take the flat black 302 Windsor Capri out last night. this is almost a 20yo engine, was the original engine used in my brother's Capri BLK-302 way back in 1991 when it used to run 11.5's. this is just a little nugget car and engine originally built by Gomac Race Engines only cost $3000, only thing of note is the camshaft which is a custom grind and Dave Stevens from Gas Motosrports did a little magic on the carby. apart from that all is pretty much factory, the heads are untouched, porting them is the next job. has a roll cage but the suspension is nothing special and remains untouched for over a decade

has just under 315rwhp and weighs 2800lbs. the engine and C4 gearbox have not been freshened up for at least 5 or 6 years (had gearbox issues last night) it probably has done over 200 passes and driven weekly since the last freshen up.

the track wasn't the best it was very dewy and it took us a couple goes before we worked out the best tyre pressure and launch rpm. last 2 runs were 1.58 and 1.56 60's. next time we will have a little play around with the jets and see if we can get it to crack an 11.0 or even 10.9 before we put the good 302ciW in. with the good 302 in we are hoping to run low 10's which for a legit 302 (not a stroker like people used to think) in a 2800lb car isn't too bad.

a pic of the engine and a couple vid's of the passes below

thanks mate, we were proud of the little nugget. we have took it out about 6 months ago, ran similar numbers as the first 2 passes. soon as we saw the 60' times on a dewy track we thought it will make a great S/S or S/ST car. i attribute the 11.1 passes and 1.5 60's to my call of dropping the tyres down to 10psi instead of the 12psi they usually run

probably about $4000 at today's prices

mickyyy it's a 6-point roll cage, mini-tubbed, fully engineered and 100% street legal and driven. the car is pretty much BLK-302 all the old stuff was thrown into this before it got upgraded about 2001. the good 302ci which was in BLK-302 when it was running 10.5's is currently being freshened up and will be thrown into the car sometime later this year, this car is a couple hundred pounds lighter so we are hoping low 10's.
