I've just found out my hail damaged MC mondeo wagon is a write off and am trying to work out whether to by it back.
Just wondering if anyone out there needs a powershift, and/or what it might be worth? It's done ~130kkm. at 75kkm, just after I bought it, the trans had a problem had a $5K fix under warranty (mechatronics unit replaced IIRC). It's been faultless ever since so I'd say this used trans would be less risky than some others out there. Buyer could certainly try before buy. I'd only sell the whole car |

So they wrote yours off!
What did they reckon the undamaged value was, and what was the buyback, if you don't mind me asking? I don't know what I'd do if faced with a $4 -5k repair bill. I'm starting to think about a replacement now. The old girl is getting used more like a farm truck than a fine GT wagon.

I've decided to go ahead with buying the mondeo back for the $2500.
No immediate plans to move it on any time soon but if anyone reading this happens to need a transmission then let me know and I might be able to help |

That’s my question! Do you need one?
Its worth what someone will pay I guess. They’d be paying for paying for a whole car, and for the right buyer theres value in the other bits, but I don’t expect everyone to see it like that. The dented up Mondeo is serving me very well so I’m in no rush or financial position to replace it. I’d consider moving it on to someone in need If I got the right offer. |

Cool. I felt it was a shame to junk the car for superficial damage when it's mechanically sound. Is this to re-register it and keep driving despite the dings?
If you did want to improve the appearance you could always try your hand at Paintless Dent Removal. As a hobby it should keep you fairly busy In all seriousness though, I've been looking into it to fix some dings on my Mondy and I believe it would only take a cheap PDR glue pull kit off eBay and some patience to get quite reasonable results. Admittedly I'm not faced with doing the whole expanse of my roof though... |

Fill the dents, get it reasonably smooth then go for the retro look with black vinyl.

There was lots of hand-wringing among staff and parents at the early learning centre stuck watching as their cars in the carpark got battered. The damage on the Mondeo is fairly light and from a distance isn't obvious at all, but the car is covered in little dings all over. Up close the ripples in the panels become apparent. Luckily none of the glass or lights got broken. I had it comprehensively insured, but awkwardly the damage coincided with when we were packing to move interstate from Canberra to Dubbo and it took some time to get assessed for repair. It got assigned three times to different repairers and while the first valuator was positive about our chances, the result after the final one was that it was a write off. Car was insured for $14,050 agreed value, and the word from the assessor during his inspection was it would be pretty close to that amount to fix up. I didn't want to lose the vehicle as the payout wouldn't be close to get us into the kind of vehicle we'd want to replace it (which would not be like-for-like, we'd be aiming for something newer and probably like a minivan). I had the vehicle checked over by a mechanic and it received a perfect bill of health mechanically so I took the buyback option to keep it on the road for $2,700. For even more fun times, while all this was going down I got involved in a minor fender-bender after we moved to the new town and had another insurance claim in (not at fault). I ended up getting a new repainted bumper, left guard and passenger front door with the rest of car sporting hail dents, lol. Took me some searching to find this thread again. I see I mentioned the PDR and I ended up getting a kit from eBay some time ago. It's sat unused for years and now I've got hundreds of dings to learn on! LOL! |

You will be amazed how many hail dents you can get out with heat, the ones in the roof boot lid and bonnet are the easiest, you wont get them all unless you are a pro but you will get a fair few out, just using the heat and quench method.
