I disagree... It’ll be a very similar scenario to why Mustang has been so successful in Australia.
Except now it’s Chev’s halo car, the mighty “Vette” that’s available to all.
Squarely aimed at your average middle aged Australian red team enthusiast!
House virtually paid off, interest rates at record lows...
Extend the mortgage and let’s buy the car we dreamed of growing up.
Guarantee, it’ll be the same demographic of buyers as Mustang has been, except, this time, from the other side of the fence!
And who’s to feckin argue?... An absolutely gorgeous looking car!

You could be right as it is definitely a GM halo car but there is a big difference in the price point of the Vette compared to the Mustang, I’m guessing if the price comes in at the higher end of $150K that will shut out a lot of enthusiasts where the Mustang really hits the sweet spot of affordability.

For those that are cashed up and willing to spend it on a motor vehicle, they’ll end up with a fantastic car for the price and I hope you’re right and they go like hotcakes as the second hand market will be the place to grab one when the updated models come out.

Chev badge revenge time! It would be a laugh to stick a Ford badge on, when first released, confusing non enthusiasts.

Over 500 Oz deposits/orders already. Oz orders slated for Q4/20 or Q1/21 build.
If a deposit hasn't been placed it'll likely be a few years without scalping.....

Other choices ? Can't do the GT40 which is the logical competitor
I think it'll be a $140-240K proposition depending on specs

Interesting? Will it be listed as a Holden? How’s the rest of the range going? I assume people who are after performance only have the Corvette

The GT is a $US 500 k vehicle and not in the Corvette price range.

It’s a supercar, not a corvette.

both are mid engine, both 0-60 in 3 flat,

one has an additional 150 hp, and was distributed in very limited quantities at a very high price,

the other will be limited to around 34,000 units annually and is much more accessible.

i guess your definition of a supercar is based on volume produced or price paid, not performance (even though annual volumes will be similar to Porsche 911 volumes for Australia)

Thats ok, we all have opinions (which may differ)

It will be good to get some real drive reviews, couldn't expect to much "super"car for $60+K unless it truely is a game changer afforded by high volumes.

Lets see what lap times bring with the high performance Corvettes in yrs 2+.
In the meantime, the 3LT interior looks like a comfortable place to wait.
I know one thing for sure - it ain't no muscle car.

I never thought they'd sell a factory RHD Corvette here so I'm on the back foot while I give it some serious thought.

It's was only yesterday that I released I needed one.

if its a factory RHD and only $56k in the US it should only be about $90k here, unless they decide to only bring in the LT3 with Z51 pack only and charge $150k just to make more profit

This will be priced from about $120k DA, buyers at that level start to thin out quite a bit
especially when you can get a honking big Ram or Silverado truck for similar money.

I still think $120k is a steal when you look at what you get.

I dont like it and prefer the FR layout for the Corvette but good luck to them. We would never get the Ford GT anywhere near that price.

I would have expected it to be in the 150-200 range with those stat's.

Not quite sure you'd be tossing up between a sports car or a pick-up.

At that price, corvette is directly competing with the Boxter/Cayman.

You'd be surprised what gets cross shopped, I saw a guy go from a two seater sports car to a Ranger Raptor
and I asked him why, answer was that he shops all over the map looking for different vehicles to lease.

I'm well familiar with the history and previous corvette Models, but this looks very much like a super car contender. and that's what it was designed for, minus the price tag.

I still think it will be priced at 200K plus here - lets see

I have a feeling GM will make a statement and bring in the base model and make it really affordable.

I had a look at the current models, there looks to be a lot of specific options

https://www.chevrolet.com/performanc...ray-sports-car

choice = cost. so I agree to bring the price down and only have a base model they would need to remove choice

They're not going to sell a bare bones car to the UK, so anyone hoping for that here might be disappointed.

Even before anything else, the exchange rate on a base C8 Corvette is around AUS$90K
So unless GM eats the cost of RHD, import costs and LCT, a RHD Corvette will be over $100K
and once you do that, buyers tend to thin out.

Initial orders of 500 are promising, so let's see how that goes over the next 12 months,
I have a feeling that anyone who wants a Corvette will be on that final list well before 2021.
Beyond that, who knows....
