Totally agree. My first thoughts were its not a Corvette but another version of the same type of supercar that just about everyone is spilling out nowadays. Other than being in a Corvette post I would have thought its another Ferrari model. Hmmm copy maybe.

Maybe the road version will be a tad better at encompassing the Corvette mantra as this thing doesn't .

Being built RHD by Chevrolet and confirmed to be sold through Holden Dealerships - Talking between $100k-$150K and due here late next year/early 2021... Initially with 370kw/637nm V8 and 8 speed Dual Clutch. Assume Z06/ZR1 will come later...

https://www.caradvice.com.au/777149/...for-australia/

Come on GM, not start building Camaro RHD as well!!

We're not in Kansas anymore Toto.....

Those Commodore based HSVs are starting to look really affordable.

They can make a RHD Corvette but still RHD conversions for Camaro? I would have thought Camaro would be the volume seller and that would make sense.

Anyways it doesn't really look like a Corvette in those pictures. It doesn't look bad, but not what we are used to.

I reckon this will harm the resale values of a number of premium vehicles. Such as Gallardo, Huracan, Boxster Spyder, Cayman GT4, AMG GT and the final HSV GTSR (sedans & Maloo). 17 Maloo GTSRs for sale right now, from $95k. Which will be near 5 years old, and a likely trade in for GM fans.
Ferrari and McLaren owners will buy the Corvette Track version to add to their collection.
Mustang owners likely to hold, and also buy the Corvette. Because they didn't spend so much on their 2016-19 purchase.
GT500 more likely now, in RHD?? Let's hope.

Pretty certain Lamborghini, Porsche, and Merc are not worried at all.

As for GTSRs, they can ask whatever they want since you can't buy one new now. If I hit the lotto I would definitely buy one.

I don’t know, I think it will impact on these other cars. Even if it doesn’t directly hit sales I think it will make buyers question the value proposition a lot more.

I’d take a Corvette over those listed due to less knob factor, and I like the idea of being able to take it down my local Holden dealer for servicing

I don’t even mind it in Ford blue

I wouldn’t think that’s be accurate, they have just taken the US price and converted it to AUD.

I don’t think we’ll know the real price for a while.

I think there's going to be a huge premium on RHD models. The Americans are targeting the 911 which is just over $US90K. Here they start at over $AUD265K.

As per the link I posted above, Australian pricing expected to be between $100-150k according to Gm/Holden.

GM/Chev screwed themselves on a factory RHD Camaro.. The fifth gen (Transformers shape) was released it was on the Zeta Platfrom which is Australian and what the VE/VF Commodore's share. Would have thought RHD wouldn't have been a stretch.

Then with the Sixth Gen (2016) they knew Ford was going to build the Mustang RHD so they would have been in box seat to copy them and do the same. But alas, again, no go...

Fingers crossed when (if???) they do the 7th gen they start producing them RHD... Sell the SS here for Mustang money and then the ZL1 for what used to be HSV GTS money.. will see if GM pulls the blinkers off..

The whole thing with Camro not having RHD was due to the timing of Holden's plant closure.
It was a similar situation to Ford taking the Mustang, USA needs to know roughly 4 years before
launch so that everything can be done under the one project development cost centre.
When Holden decided to call it quits (Dec 2013) Gen 6 had moved past final lock in and was
basically out of the question for what was one location development, Mustang RHD was done
as part of 25 RHD countries to increase scales of economy.

To say the least, I'm very surprised at GMNA throwing Holden a lifeline like RHD Corvette,
it's almost a gift. While GMNA is in a generous mood, maybe it could add a RHD version of
the new Cadillac XT5 with Holden Grille - Just call it SS and SS-V for the V version.

Great pricing.

Hopefully it’s performance lives up to its looks and that it comes in RHD.

Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, MB, Lamborghini and NSX are in its sights. If it is as good as they claim then it will take years for Henry to create something comparable and as cost effective. I suppose Ford could continue rolling out its GT but that model is supposed to be exclusive and priced in the very expensive category. Did GM catch the other manufacturers asleep? It isn’t as though this car just sprung out there’s been photo’s of it for years.

Nice technical article here
https://jalopnik.com/heres-a-detaile...ssi-1836540969

Pricing (USA) starts at $60k USD. Confirmed.
Unlike Australia, North America usually starts with base pricing incorporating very minimal equipment lists, with many options and $ usually added.

Given I can price a porsche with $60K of options alone in the USA, the value proposition in my mind is outstanding. But Corvette branding has always been a bit that way.

There is no way a direct AUD-USD Forex conversion will work for Aus pricing. Even the toyota supra here is a $100K proposition ($50k USD) and Cars provided to Oz will not be poverty pack base level....

As far as HP goes, like Porsche, this is a very efficient performer, but product life cycle will only see hp increase as the model matures, expect higher performance models in year 2/3+....

Not sure why people are surprised at RHD, even the C5 had factory RHD racks produced 2 decades ago and that had a motor in the way- its easier to price/engineer early allowing the beancounters&internal politicians to choose or ignore the option/business case later in the cycle....

Would be 150k here.

I wonder if they did rhd cause it’s a lot easier with the engine in the middle. No engine up front to get in the way of steering and doesn’t effect crash testing.

Price is also yet to be confirmed but CarAdvice understands, having spoken to Holden dealers briefed on the vehicle, that the price will be somewhere between $100,000 and $150,000.

I bet Holden won't bother with with the entry level model @ $100K,
probably start at Z51 so my gut says $125K to $150K

If you're in the market for a Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo or McLaren, I doubt a GM product at any price is going to be of much interest. Maybe if you can only get a Cayman, you might go the Corvette. No, I think the Corvette will most likely steal sales from the more benign sports coupe offerings of the like of Merc/BMW.

The videos around a track I've watched it handles great (getting there) - and plenty a room for a supercharger or turbos.

It depends on the motivation for purchase. If you want a fast car because you’re a genuine car enthusiast, why wouldn’t you compare them? If you’re a badge snob, and you couldn’t care less about every other factor, then you wouldn’t consider the Vette. Then there are probably some people in the middle.

Basically the people that won't ever buy a mid-engined Corvette don't matter,
GM is listening and knows that there are buyers in RHD countries that will buy it.

Specification level will be the point that makes it sell or just be exclusive imported car.
I guess the manufacturer makes more profit on a specced up car against a base model, so expect the price to be 150k for an upmarket version.
Will wait and see. Still have one of these over a supercharged Camaro.

Even though these newer models of Corvettes are known to be real performers, people who buy Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini and other very high-end brands and models may buy a Corvette as a second or third car for their garage but I don’t believe too many will purchase one as a replacement.

The main market will be higher end HSV buyers and entry level performance AMG, BMW, Audi & Nissan owners.
