Question Extended Warranty??

Hi,

My Focus is about 7 months short of it's 3rd birthday and I am thinking about a Ford extended warranty. Especially after my car needed a new instrument cluster and computer today (tacho and speedo going crazy, lights on and off, etc).

I have serviced every 12mths / 15K and it only has about 51K on the clock now.

My questions are:
1. How much?
2. Does a dealer offer it to me at my 3 year service or do I need to ask?
3. If I want it can they refuse to sell it to me? (eg: on the grounds that I have had 1 or 2 warranty claims)
4. Is it a full warranty or does it have limitations of cover etc.

Cheers,

MK

It's a full bumper to bumper FACTORY warranty, extending the factory warranty up to 5 years and 160,000km.

I think the extra 2 years are about a thousand dollars. You should ask, don't rely on the Dealer or else it'll be too late.

I don't believe they have a right to refuse you and of anything, the more warranty claims you've had the more likely you should do it.

I would shop around dealers.... When i purchased my LR Focus a few weeks ago, they offered me an "aftermarket" warranty for $895, then $595, and then if i signed on the spot $395.
I didnt want an aftermarket warranty ($1000 per claim max), but may well extend the bumper to bumper Factory ford..... If you know someone who buys a lot of cars through a dealer, ask them to get you a quote.... will be substantially cheaper than RRP.

It's FACTORY extension or nothing personally. The others are rubbish.

Agree 100%. Too much paperwork involved in non factory warranty repairs.

I had extended warranty on a car (not a FORD) I owned in the past and it was Dealer-specific. i.e. if I had a warranty issue, I could only take it back to the Dealer at which I had bought it and no other. Does this work in a similar fashion??

Factory extension works as a complete factory backed job for x amount of years / KM. So should work through any dealer.

I think mine was a 3 year/100,000km extension of the Ford Factory warranty. Works exactly the same as your new car warranty which is handy (for me anyway) and from what I remember can be used at any Ford dealer around the country.

Haven't had to use it so far, but I can imagine it would be better than dealing with those other extended warranties which require you to send them invoices etc of your service history and then take ages and ages and find some loophole so they don't have to pay up.

Maximum extension is another 2 years and 60,000km, to a grand total of 5 years / 160,000km. Can be used at any Dealer.
