OMG... This list just gets longer...

I wonder if FTF take 4-door falcon utes ? The ultimate in between :P

Mate, looks great! I was thinking of doing something similar to my tub trailer, but using a canopy. But looking at that, I would love to do it with my hard top. How did you get the hard top fold up like that?

I'd definatly do it if i was one of those people that camps up at Mt Panorama on Bathurst weekend and i stopped camping when i left High School. So until the Mrs *hopes, waits, prays* gives me a son, might be a while till i do something like that.

But being someone that used to camp alot, I can appreciate how good that would be.

At the moment we use it for when we get out of Sydney, having family up and down the coast and way out west, cant always pack everything we need. So we ususally end up leaving stuff behind.
Im just glad we have a way around that now

I have a question if someone can answer it.

The chain that attaches from the draw bar to the car.
Can it be taken off, except for one link and re-attached with a d-shackle when needed?
So it would be d-shackled at both trailer and car.

The chain is chipping the draw bar and flaking off the paint
I think they cheaped out on the painting of the draw bar, probly crappy GO-LO pressure pack.

My spare tub is SOLD, Went to a Brute Ute Team

The sticker is gone off the back, made use of my new heat gun

And i figured out why i cant put on my center caps on the mags... I think.
I'll let you know when i give it a go.

I am pretty sure the chain from the drawbar needs to be welded onto the drawbar itself ... les likelihood of it breaking away if the trailer came unhitched at 100km/h some how (have seen a council truck on Richmond Rd DRAG a tree trunk shredder by it's chains and sparking all the way along ... the driver was oblivious).

My horse float has twin chains and the loop that is welded onto the drawbar is litterally all welded in.

See if you can get one of those clear plastic tubes ... like a sleeve ... and put it over the chain at the drawbar end ... that might help a bit in reducing damage to the paint.

I think the hub centres stick out too far for the centre caps to fit in the wheels.

You were right, I've just spent some time browsing the ADR's and found this...

12.4 Drawbars Safety Chain Attachments
The chain must be permanently attached to the trailer, shackles are not permitted.

Does anyone have underside photos of their Ute Tub projects?

I have a Black tub in the Garage which I'm looking to convert into a trailer, most of these that I've seen the wheels look too close to the front side of the tub, as in the photo above.

What were the average quotes for all the work? How does it handle when it's being towed?

Don't have any photos of the underside sorry. the quotes vary wildy from one extreme to another. Range from $750 to $1500. They handle great when being towed,wouldn't know that it was there. Even when loaded right up it sits on the road great.

Yeah, What he said.

One place i got a quote from quoted $2500, with a brake system.

And the place i went to, well i cant recommend them.
They changed the price 3 times by the time it was done. :
I let them know i wasn't happy about that.

But, They were still the cheapest... :rolleyes:

Why the hell would you want or need a brake system on a trailer of this size?

I got a quote of $600, the place said that it's a waste of time and the tub trailer's don't balance well and people are better off with a standard 6x4, but I think it's good to be creative.

That was my thought also.

Basically its just a rectangular frame made from RHS with some cross bars.
They've probably then sat some lengths of wood on the frame, then placed the tub on top and welded metal plates in and then cut out the wood.
Then you just got to weld in the spring mounts & axle set up and a draw bar.

I might try and take some photos after the weekend when i have some time.
