Default 2020 Ford Bronco to mimic new Jeep Wrangler

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. ;)

The 2020 Ford Bronco, it’s been confirmed, will run the same Dana solid axles front and rear as the all-new Jeep Wrangler…

According to a report by Automotive News, allegedly derived from a Dana investors meeting, the recently announced 2020 Ford Bronco will feature the same Dana-produced solid axles as the next-generation Jeep Wrangler. It’s believed the axles for the Bronco will be built in the same Toledo, Ohio factory as the Wrangler.

And the same goes for the US version of the Ranger, which Dana confirmed: “[both vehicles will have] front and rear axles featuring our latest AdvanTEK gear technology”. It’s worth remembering that the original Bronco was derived as a competitor to the Jeep CJ in the 1960s, and Dana provided the axles back then, too.

The news from Dana shows the new Bronco will be more than just a re-badged Ford Everest. That said, both Bronco, Everest and Ranger share the same T6 light truck platform. Because Australia is the global development centre for the T6 platform and will (and is already) perform the early engineering work for the new Bronco and the next-generation Ranger.

There’s no word on whether the new Bronco will be sold in Australia, but given our strong off-road community and the fact that Everest has just been re-classified as an off-road passenger vehicle, anything is possible. Stay tuned.

Well hopefully Some of the available features will include the 3.0 V6 diesel, 10 speed auto with 4:1 low range ratio, 3.73-4.1:1 axle ratio, electronic front and rear lockers, sway bar disconnects, portal axles, 37" MT's, full underbody armor

That's a fan rendering only - not from Ford - there's another thread or more on it already.

As it'll be based on the Global Ranger I can't see it being anything other than maybe a 2-door or short-wheelbase version of the next generation Everest. Not that image above, sadly.

IF it ended up looking like that, Ford would be on a winner. Looks great...just the right amount of retro to the styling.

Aerodynamics? I remember reading many years ago that aerodynamics don't actually make any difference in a street car...not in any real measurable sense...when it comes to fuel economy. They're mainly there to reduce wind noise and quietness. Let's face it...it's not like you're going balls-out on Conrod Straight or the Mulsanne straight when you're tootling off on holidays or driving to the shops...

Can someone enlighten me on solid axles front and rear? If there was a solid axle on the front, wouldn't that render the car unsteerable..

If I could work out how to put up pics from my mobile, I'd post a pic of my Everest, then you could all see what the Bronco will look like.

You could, but you'd be wrong.

I'm tipping Bronco has not got one piece of sheet metal in common with Everest !

Almost all 4x4s these days have IFS. The only solid/live front axle options are the Wrangler or 70 series landcruiser I believe.

Cool - just like the original XY 4WD Utes had.

Maybe they could go full retro and make a ute version for Australia?

Though I know they aren't popular in Australia, so does the Ram 2500 and higher; and Ford F-250 and higher. GM uses IFS on 2500/3500. Mercedes G-Wagen also has a solid front axle.

That's some serious heavy machinery you're talking! But I stand corrected, I was more thinking of the Australian market.
