An XR fronted wagon will look like an XR wagon, a fairlane fronted wagon will look like a hearse.

Hey hey hey...

Looks pretty good, except for the grandpa visor.

I'm hearing you guys about the hybrid, XR front, fairlane interior.
Except I'd prefer one or the other, not a mix.

That's why this has me stumped somewhat...

Personally, I would remove the visor, remove the LTD chrome mould and grille and replace the fairlane wheels with 17" sportsman ones.
Two tone silver over grey, tinted windows and lowered slightly..
Would look perfect..!

That's the direction I'd head, probably not two tone though.

+1 first thought was "looks great" ........... for a Hearse!

It did appear to square it (the car) off more though.

Ive often thought if I eventually did it to mine, to maybe black out the headlights tl50 style and black out part of the grille (I think kristo did this at one point pre tl50 grille). Kinda dress it down a touch, so all that chrome on the front doesnt look at odds with with the rest of the body, and it will lose the hearse image a bit.

That's pretty much as I described in my last post Kristo, except fit a Fairlane boot spoiler to the top of the tailgate to balance the look.

What do they say..great minds think aliake but fools seldom differ..

I think balance is the key there, you wouldn't want a heavy looking front and/or rear end, the whole 'package' (whilst being different) would look like a 'possible' model put together by Ford.

Thinking the last few days, scary stuff...

I've been leaning towards the Fairlane, if I find a nice silver wagon for the right $$.
This is the nicest one I've found, but way more than I want to pay.
http://www.sydneyautohouse.com.au/st...tura-auiii-81/

If I were to head in the XR direction, I would do something else...

How many wagons have been seen in blueprint? I have never seen one.
I have a blueprint sedan and ute, both XR's. How about a blueprint XR wagon?

Obviously it wouldn't matter what colour I bought as it would need to be sprayed anyhow.

Thoughts?

While Id love to.see a.Fairlane Wagon, at the same time Id be equally pleased to see you build a Blueprint wagon, I love that colour.

Is that the one that's marked down from $2980 to $2980 ?

There is one very simple reason why it should be XR, a Fairlane wagon is typically a hearse.

I spoke to these clowns on the phone asking if there's room to move on price.

The answer was that it's been marked down from 6k!!

That price doesn't look unreasonable at all to me..?? I looked at other wagons before my parents scored the Pathfinder, for $4000 ish mark, same kays, not as tidy as that etc... Honestly that looks like a well kept wagon for good money.
I bought Skip from my parents for $4500, with 197,000kms.

I believe this wagon happens to be painted in Blueprint? Found on Gumtree today.
Looks AWESOME! (except the yellow plates)

Originally was a '99 Forte, converted to a S3 Fairmont.

Well folks, I took the plunge and bought a mighty wagon.

No, not the blue one above, but that one was considered.

It's a 2001 series 2, silver and in decent condition.
It has a low 150,000k's, and is a Futura.

I paid $1900.

Photos to follow soon, and then I may start a build thread.

I have also decided to go with the Fairlane conversion, complete, no hybrid.

Sounds like a great pickup for the price Sox. Definitely a +1 for a build thread - and great choice going the Fairlane conversion.

Well done.

JC is right, I can't help myself.
The front end is already on!

Did it today, was easy enough, except the loom also had to be swapped as the headlights have different plugs.
The entire external fuse box, and loom which runs into the cabin had to be changed.

Something strange has also happened, I think...
I don't recall if it was like that on the Fairlane or not.

On low beam just the outside are on. Check.
When you flash, all 4 work. Check.
When the hi beam is on, only the inside lights are on. Is this right?

My suspicion is that it's supposed to be like that, because I think the low beam globe is only a single filament.

Sox, the outside beams are a H4 globe - High and Low Beam. With High beam on all 4 lights should be on. Insides beams are H1s - just for High beam.
