There would be a large percentage of these vehicles that were not bought 'because' they were 7 seat, but due to the other improvements over the base model..

I have a 7 seat, because I wanted a TS. not because I wanted 7 seats. I rarely see a territory utilising the third row. I have used mine about 3 times in the 18months I've owned it, simply because that option is there, but my next car almost certainly won't have it.

I don't see the 2T towing limit being an issue either. I actually see this as a good thing given the size (and more importantly weight) of the car. I'd imagine the rear axle load limit wouldn't take much more than that anyway. People love to quote the 2.7T limit of the territory, but the fact is, if you want to legally tow 2.7T with a territory, you pretty much can't have anything in the territory except fuel and driver.

The limited fuel choice would be the biggest factor I can see, although the stigma of diesel being a dirty fuel is not such an issue anymore with the sheer volume of diesel cars out there and diesel pumps being part of the normal service station, not the truck filling area.
In my case 7 seater not for the actual seats but longer cargo area. And I know of some that buy a 7 seater because you can space the lovely offspring apart..

I can't think of too many 7 seaters that are physically different size to the 5 seat version.

It took me a few years to realise that my 7 seater Terri has about 3" less legroom in the back than a 5 seater.

are you sure about this? Do you leave the headrests on the third row or remove them?

Now I know! That makes total sense. And also explains why I've done up my garden and fences at the peak of the property market here - I must be old money and can see a recession looming! Thanks Rokwiz

The head rests have been in a cupboard since new. There is a 40mm gap between the back of the seat and the folded 3rd row, and 50mm gap from the top of the seat to edge of the parcel shelf.
I compared it to a 5 seater, and found the roughly 3" difference.
Perhaps mine is built on the shorter wheelbase ?

That's because usually they need to be built with enough cargo length to accommodate the 7 seats even if not optioned with it like Territory. I was more specifically referring to Edge over it's opposition, the Edge 7 seater in China is a physically longer model then the 5 seater version built in Canada...or VW Tiguan Allspace vs 5 seater.

Do you mean a shorter wheelbase terry or just kidding. Although I always thought my 5 seater Terry had further rearward travel of the rear seats then the 7 seater model...and yes I removed the 3rd row head rests the minute I got home.

I've heard that the new generation Ford Kuga/Escape for Europe will also be made available as a 7 seater and so Ford of Europe will be dropping the Ford Edge/Endura. If that's the case, what will that mean for the Endura in Australia I wonder?

Ford only sold 32 Endura's for January, which is down on the 93 it sold in December 2018.

I would agree, on my local dealership visit last week they had literally one Endura Trend in the whole dealership and waiting for more....no truth to the rumour I offered to sell them "EDGE" badges.

Now there's a story that Europe will be dropping the Edge in favor of
a 7-seat Kuga (Escape) coming later this year.

If that's true, wow, one hand at Ford doesn't know what the other is doing...

With that said, Ford's SUV lineup is scheduled to be revamped this 2019. The EcoSport will get a replacement later in the year while a new Kuga is also on the way after the Escape's launch in the U.S. A seven-seater variant of the Kuga will also join the European lineup, ultimately replacing the Edge. Ford of Europe President Steven Armstrong also said that "another nameplate" will be launched this year.

Endura is after a different group of buyers to former Territory owners but yeah, the 7-seat Edge would help..
I've been trying to tell people here that the Edge/Endura is widest in class.
It will attract former Territory owners, as most will realise they never use the 3rd row anyway.

Edge/Endura is about 6 inches wider in the back seat than an Everest too.

I can see it now: Ford Australia renames the Escape (nee: Kuga) back to, well, Kuga, to conform with global model naming...

Uhmmm...

That vehicle is called Escape in North America, the Escape was also a small SUV that sold here in the early 2000’s

A couple of things about January VFACTS

1. Stink Bugs - The sources are true - there was a ship contaminated by them, which delayed shipments of cars. A couple of brands affected - Kia, Audi and others.

2. Consumer sentiment down - election coming up, tougher lending practices from banks, housing market down turn all flowing onto the car market.

3. New Rules around how car sales are called on VFACTs are coming into effect end of Q1. Cars recorded on VFACTs must be registered to a customer in a certain amount of time. If not - the sales numbers will be reversed. Car companies have had the opportunity since Nov last year to March this year to clean up their act on cars sitting on lots without owners. So it may be the case that car companies are not "Calling" or "cybering" as many cars as they used to.

4. Mitsubishi is going extremely strong. Up 20%+ YOY. Theyve also increased their marketing dollars significantly since 2017 vs 2018. Theres speculation sales may drop off after the Japanese End of Financial Year ends after March. In which it would ride the wave until it ramps it up in the later part of the year

5. With sales the lowest since 1961 - theres rumours that GM want to shut Holden down and have an independent importer (Inchcape) import the cars and look after the dealership network. It certainly has Holden Dealers, people at Subaru, Peugeot and Citroen scratching their heads.........

Interesting times ahead

However it's down about 350L in rear cargo area which for most Territory owners could be a consideration, it is for me.

So where else apart from Australia would take a RHD Edge/Endura?
I would assume that Ford Australia's decision to go with Endura is long term knowing a 7-seater Escape was being developed.

If Ford HQ decide it's not worth building a RHD Edge or more importantly a future all-new RHD version where does that leave local product supply of suitable vehicles?

All new Ecosport, Escape 5 seater and Escape 7 seater, Endura 5 seater, Everest and Explorer , Bronco and one or two not yet formally announced would make a great portfolio....if they could all be built in RHD......and Lincoln Aviator just for me

going on the dimensions posted earlier, it wouldn't make sense to sell the Chinese 7 seat Edge here as Escape. It would make more sense to sell it as Endura.

Not sure where you get got your figures from. but its certainly not 350L smaller!

You have to be careful of different ways of measuring Ford should use the area behind the 2nd row to the roof: Endura has 1110 liters, Territory had 1153

But if cargo space is important to you, ill remind you that Territory is not available new any more. making the Endura your best option as a replacement

this is a good point. Many people look at endura from the point of view of a territory replacement, and from the point of view of a territory owner looking to upgrade. while these are valid viewpoints, there is also the viewpoint of a non ford owner looking to buy the car. Being able to fit 3 car seats across the rear seat would be a big plus for some.

Endura 800L "5-seat mode laden to roof" and the old pdf for Territory lists it as 1153L "5 seater behind second row".
What source do you have?

fair enough, but it looks wrong to me..

I got my info from a US site 39.2 cubic feet which equates to 1110 liters
https://www.ford.com/suvs-crossovers...odels/edge-st/

Ive looked at a few others now and they are all different..

Canada where they are made though has 1111L
https://www.ford.ca/suvs-crossovers/...odels/edge-st/
