Default MD Mondeo tyre life

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy a new MD Mondeo Titanium petrol next week and was wondering what tyre wear/life is like. I understand this will vary based on tyre choice, driving style, frequently of balancing, alignment, rotation, psi in tyres etc.

My current MC Mondeo Titanium petrol goes through tyres every 25K kilometres, even after trying different compounds and pressures I just cannot seem to get more out of my tyres. Wheel alignment and balance is done every 5K.

My driving is predominately on the freeway to the CBD and back everyday.

I’m curious to understand what the Tyre life is on your car. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

rxj

Hi rxj,
I am on my 4th Mondeo, currently have a 2017 MD Titanium Wagon. Only last week I changed all 4 Tyres from the original Continental Rubber to a Set of Kumho KU39. I got 38000km out of the original Set, which I thought was OK. the Conti's do not last long, admittedly they are great Tyres but too pricey for what you get Life wise.
The Kumho's cost me $155 each including Fitting and Balancing.
I used various Versions of Kumho's on my previous Mondeos and always got around 40-45000 out of them. I tried Falken, Dunlop and Michelins but I think the KU39 are a great Tyre for the Money. Handles and brakes well in wet and dry, is quiet and doesn't tramline.
I do around 6000km a Month, so longevity is important to me, I get them rotated and balanced at every Service, check psi every week and run at 40-41.
I do a mix of Suburban and Country Driving, so your average Lifespan seems a bit low
cheers

my folks 2015 MD Titanium ecoboost did 34K Continentals and had a few big intrastate drives, they have Michelin PS4 currently.

I get 35K from PS4 and previous PS3 but that can easily jump to 50K if you're driving on the hwy a lot. I don't have a problem with 35K on PS4 for what they give and when on sale end up being $155ea (235/4517 97XL) which is great value.

I rotate mine every 15K (service interval)
I rotate folks every 7.5K (during a half service)

They don't get a wheel alignment unless there's a problem with tyre wear or in my case, some work were done. (suspension)

My MD trend wagon got 22k from the factory front Continentals with very even wear. Replaced with Good Years and moved it on at 77k and they had 3mm of tread left and the rear continentals still had 3mm of tread. It did mainly hwy runs.

I got my original Continental front tyres replaced at 25,000km, while the rear still has plenty of tread left after 36,000km

My MD Mondeo Trend came with Michelin Primacy tyres which have excellent grip and are quiet Have done 38 000k and reckon have got about 5k left. I think replacements are about $280 each. Obviously the 19" on the Titanium are different but having driven both I actually prefer the 17" wheels as far as a ride/handling balance.

My experience has been that wheel alignment and regular rotation is the key to good tyre life on a Mondeo. I always go to a specialist suspension place to get mine done, and am currently up to 40,000 km on a set of Primacy ST tyres, which still have 3-4 mm tread.
