Question UHF Recommendations

Ok kids, it appears I am going to need a UHF… Problem is I don’t know anything about them. Anybody got any recommendations? Price is not really an issue, I just want a good one that is easy to use with clear reception that I can use for club activities.

Thanks in advance, Tori

Hey Tori
I won a Uniden UH044 and it is one of the most powerful handheld (2 watts output instead of 1/2 watt) on the market - so they say - so far I have had no problems with it at all , the batteries seem to last a while, the only thing I bought was a hand held mike/speaker to go with it and that was about $40 .
Here is a link to the unit , I think they retail for about $150 at Dick Smith Uniden UHF
I sold a unit to Vegabass a few weeks ago just before the Hinterland cruise it was a Hoffer brand and it was a great little unit it and I had no dramas with it at all , it was about $70 from Brisbane Car sound about 18 months ago

Hope it helps

I had my Uniden for several years now, its a good quality unit and batteries last a long time. It's 0.5watt and is allright but if I was to buy one today I would go for the 2watt. When I bought it they were around $98 but I think they are a little cheaper now. I have also seen the 2watt for around $ 145-150 at Dick Smith.
Some of the cheaper ones for around $40-50 are just not worth the money.
My 2 cents worth anyway.

Cheers Per

Tori, Icom IC 40s, its not a toy and will take a beating. Swear buy it, about 450 dollars. I use them and have had no problems, will get 5-10km, and are great on cruises, front of the pack or brining up the rear.
Hope i helps
Cheers

G'day Tori & Jabba

I purchased a Uniden UH075 prior to the Darwin trip and it has been great. It is a 5 watt model and has a range of about 5 ks. I also got the optional handset that plugs in and becomes the mic and speaker. I suppose the biggest day was the first (around 13 hrs) and it didn't even look like it was going to go flat. It recharges in a couple of hours and its ready to go again. You can pick them up at Dick Smith or Strathfield Car Radio stores for around the $400 mark.

Cheers,

Ken

Hey Tori,

I'm slowly preparing for the Phillip Is trip and wanting to purchase a radio. I have done a bit of asking around and spoke to Jeff recently about them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong! There are two main types. One that is run on batteries and can be taken in and out of the car similar to a mobile phone and then those that are fixed into the car.

If money is not an option, and you don't want to deal with batteries, an in car model may be the go. You just need an ariel set up like Jeff's so that it can come in and out of the boot, so that you don't have an S clip sticking out from the bonnet or boot. I have had a look at the Uniden models but I am also considering the GME range.

Happy Shopping!

Dave

Default Hey Ms Tori

Hi Tori

I have to agree with the others that you can't beat the Uniden Range of Radios.
The ones we were using on the weekend were the 5 watt UH70 units.
They offer exceptional performance and the best thing is that you can take them with you if you go to a circuit or such.
I have an in-car UH011 in my F100 and it works fine. The only problem is having the extra ariels and wiring going everywhere.
We bought our radios off E-Bay and got two for the price of one.
Just check the prices prior and set your limit.

Cheers
Mr & Mrs Mooch

PS it was lovely to meet you last Weekend. Hope to catch up again soon.
