all good mate, we're all guilty of a bit of stereotyping from time to time :eclipsee_ :eclipsee_

hahaha, hey id love to have a done up xf ute :P not a bad idea :

its hard keeping her clean but god it's nice to drive around in day to day well worth my money :

wait i should comment on something on topic!

i test drive the xr6t ute, ve ss ute and fg xr8 ute, i went with the fg xr8 not because its faster or slower or what ever it is, it's just got precense on the road in looks an sound, it's like being in a jet figher cockpit when your cruising around, just such a nice cabin compared to the ve ss, the other thing that swayed me was a ve ss is just another ve ss, on the freeway to work in the morning its just blue ve ss, black ve ss, blue ve ss, black ve ss etc etc. I wanted something a bit different + that buldge is just porn i really couldnt say it has alot of bark and no bite, they get up and go! n wait till the mods come :P

I've got a black BA, park it outside and it's permanently filthy from the dust, so I know how you feel!

Hey, I'd love an XF, but gotta love the effie pickup trucks

Wait I'll add something too.
The FG XR8 ute is, so far, very uncommon. Every time I see one I stare, as do many other people. Let's face it, they're a good looking car. Most common is unfortunatly either VE SS or VX SS. But the XR6 N/A is fairly popular as far as utes go, good pulling power, better resale value and looks better than am XLS or XL base model.

its all good NJXR6, no worries. Honestly, I've had the old utes (granted it was a classic ford) But reliability is a huge issue. I do no alot of tradies with old mazdas that yeah, have had a hard life, Most have had replacement engines and what not. People in business dont have time to waste. Plus (for me personally anyway) I had a BA XL ute (trayback) it was so very bland, mercury silver exterior, grey interior. Spending 2 - 3 hours a day in it just made me miserable.... The FG XR's are great looking, I picked Octane because it was bright and well....I love looking at it. Though your point still stands, I personally still carry 3 - 400kgs of paint drums/work related tools in the back, normally 3 days a week. I have a habit of parking further down the road to avoid overspray and misguided 'tossing that in the bin' accidents. Although the plasterers have a maloo and an SSV, mine still draws the most attention, mainly because its bright orange. Like i said, A duel cab (granted on a comparison you would have to say single cab) but a duel cab 4x2 or 4x4 new is between 45,000 - 70,000. An F6 ute is only around 60,000 - 65000. I dunno about you lot, but that puts it into perspective for me.

I work alot, I have classics that haven't been driven since mid 05 in the garage, the cortina still has premium fuel in it (when premium was about 1.05 a litre lol). Because of this, the work ute is the 'every car' for me, So i wanted something flash, something i could take to work monday - friday, then (if i have a weekend off) Get up the coast in.

Good write up GT69, and I understand where you are coming from. Certainly is good to talk to a tradie about this, it's been on my mind for a while now and I can't talk to them at work about it-lose my job. Seeing everything from both perspectives helps though.
Nice ute by the way!

Not entirely correct with BMW and Porsche, BMW don't use it for the 7 series or the 2007+ X5. Porsche don't use a coil spring, they use torsion bars in the lower wishbone, the strut only provides damping. So not your typical setup as you would indicate. This is where years of R&D go to work.

Are you serious or just taking the ? VVTI, VANOS, VTEC, etc are not simply marketing tools, they are big leaps in technology for the ICE. By your logic Fuel Injection was also bought by the public because it sounded good? If you want to stay in the caveman era of motoring that is fine, but don't keep the rest of us down there with you. !
Well obviously IRS is going to be better than a live axle on the circut when modifications/adjustments are taken into account. Off the showroom floor, theres not a lot seperating them down the strip or around a smooth track. Chuck a load in them (after all, they are utes) and see what one shines.

Never did I say Mac Struts or VVT was a bad thing. Was taking a stab at the tossers who get the feel good factor from it (who probably put synthetic oil in their 20 y/o car and get it serviced at the dealer). Somehow the author of this story reminds me of it. How many ill informed people do you think have parroted Jeremy Clarkson giving s hit to the Corvette for its 'archaic' rear suspension, when their M3 BMW uses Mac Struts, which by no means is an advanced design. Despite this my old 540 BMW with basic mac struts on the front and semi trailing arm rear suspension handled and rode better than my double wishbone irs AU Falcon, those who only look at he spec sheet might have a different idea though.
