I got most of my gear from VPW in Vic. They always give me a good price as ive spent thousands of dollars through them during the past 2 years. And i got Neils inlet manifold for him and no one else came close to price. $1250 plus delivery was their price 2 weeks ago, nil stock but there was a box of them arriving soon. Wont hurt to ask Lance....see what he says.

I bought a 850 DP when we built the engine, but when i took it down to Sydney to be run in and tuned on the dyno, it kept running lean in the higher rpm range and power was dropping off. The dyno guy had a HP 950 on the shelf, and when we bolted it on, it made a huge diffrence to the numbers and A/F ratios at top end. So i know i need one, as the engine responded so well to it. But getting close to having this car on the road now and the money spent on it....things are getting tight.

Default Is this a Carbie Thread now?

What 850 did you get? Ive found it hard to beat a 4781-2, But I have found the Anular carbies run lean up hi and Ritch down low, Mine just has a 4781-2 choke cut off and cleaned up around the top, I dont want to spend $1200 to loose power, Ive heard the 950s flow a bit worse than a modified 850, Some people put them on and think when they get good results that they needed a bigger carbie but it was the otherway around, just what ive heard. Maybe some one out there can confirm this. I guess what realy matters is that we beat the Holdens, Im not to worried about the holdens its those dam TURBOs that worry me

i went to the only local bloke that sells carbs, you should know him well as it is a local guy for you. Terry clifton in Port recomended him along with a few others also. I rang up Pro - Carb in Taree and ordered a 850 DP, i never really thought of what brand he sold, and i expected to receive a holley. But instead i ended up getting a Pro - Comp carb. I paid $800 with the braided line, it worked fine down low, but couldnt supply enough fuel up top, and just by changing carbs on the dyno saw a big jump in improvement in A/F ratios and horepower. So i will be selling it shortly on Ebay for around the $500 mark (hopefully) as it is still brand new.

Default Holley moley

Even if its no good atleast it looks the part, Those boosters look a bit bigger than the standard ones on my 4781 but still dont look as big as the anular ones, I have a great Idear you buy a 950 ultra and then I can try it and let you know if you have wasted your money, It makes more sense for you to get it as you seem pretty good at spending, If you can get your hands on a standard 850 I would do it, Ive run them on BB chevs SB chevs and clevos and done comparisons with 1050 and 1150 dominators anular and not over my 25 years of drag racing and keep going back to the old 4781s BUT im stuck in the past and havent tryed anything but basic off the shelf holleys with a few mods done buy me, Im sure some of these new ones must be better so hurry up and buy one for me to try

Default Carbies

Ordered my 950HP ultra Holley today should have it next week, As soon as I get it I will be off to Autobarn to see if I wasted my money, Also will be trying a 850 Pro Comp carbie as Kevin at Pro Carb is setting them up a bit different now so we will soon see how they compare, if I have time will have a muck around with the pro comp carbie there is no reason why they shouldnt be as good as a 850 holley "soon we will know", Gordon if you can get your Pro Comp carbie to Kevin at Pro Carb he will up grade it as he is doing things a bit different now if you can wait till we play around with one on the dyno that would be better.

Kevin at Pro carb has had it for the past 8 months.....i have repeatedly rang him just to return it !!! I have not met ever such a useless buisness man. I will never recomend pro carb in Taree to anyone, i wouldnt trust him to work on a beaten up datsun 180B. I have almost given up on him, maybe you can do something for me....he has my carb on the shelf, tell him its for Gordon at ultratune Kempsey and he will know exactly which carb is mine....i want it back !! He has been saying that he will fix my problem but does nothing....i just want to sell it so i can get my 950 ultra. And as for Procomp......they are worse than pro carb Taree !!!! Go read in the cleveland section in Ford Forums and see what everybody has written up on projunk products. Or a bit closer to home, ask Tex in our club, he has some recent problems with projunk items. : : :

He did mention a carbie for a bloke at kempsey when I said is that Gordons he wasnt sure, Dont go thinking im a pro comp fan cause Im not thats why im getting a Holley 950HP ultra for my ute, I have never owned or wanted anything pro comp, but I dont mind trying a Carbie for free to see if it has any potencial im sure a lot of people have had problems with them as you well know, I would like to find out for myself if there that bad, not just put it on find the AFR is no good take it straight off and say there c rap, If I get time I will give it a fair go and then say one way or the other knowing what there really like for myself not just repeating what others have said or heard. Im well aware of the bagging out there products get Sydney speed wanted to take legal action against the aussie V8 forum I heard for bad mouthing Pro Comp

Dont get me wrong...im not having a shot at you, 1) I have spent close to 18 grand now on development / construction / dyno wrok / machine work / porting and flow bench work / and parts on just the engine alone during the past 18 months. 2) each time i purchased a projunk product, it failed! I bought a projunk 8000 distributer, it failed straight out of the box! The car would not even start! The car was running fine before, but i wanted to upgrade the ignition system, so i bought this dizzy off Ebay...it all looked good...i spent close to $200 on it. I rang them up..they said return it and we will send another out.....they did, and within the first amount of dyno time that i had, the distributer would not hold a total deg timming and eratic timming at idle...so it got tossed, and i replaced it with a Mallory comp ss distributer which cost me $380 from VPW...problem fixed on the next dyno run. There is countless complaints in the cleveland section with these distributers. And now with this projunk carb, Dave Hanley from horsepower research and development done all the dyno and tune work on my engine, nomater what we did we could not get any A/F mixtures correct and adjustments we just useless in the end, we tried swapping jets...guess what...holley jets will not fit as the projunk has there own special jet threads....unlike almost any other carb built....so dave decided to keep the body and put holley metering blocks on....guess what....3 holes line up, but the 4th only lines up by half a hole. In the end Dave said to take it back, get my money back and get a 950hp ultra as the engine responded so well to it. Then i talk to other cab places like Hume Performance, and soon as i mention projunk carb...they all said to throw it out and a strong recomendation to DO NOT USE. Ok...i got the point and asked for my money back, as i have only used it for 2 hours on the dyno, he refused to take it back, and repetedly said that he will fix the problem....going by what he keeps doing to me, i take it he now realalises that there is a problem with the projunk carb....he is making changes to them..but still has problems. I spent $800 dollars on a piece of crap carb that i cannot return or get my money back from an item that ive used for 2 hours.....and keep ringing him to return it so i can unload it on some other poor bast*^d for around half of what i paid for it.....can you see my frustration. :

Ok...i got the point and asked for my money back, as i have only used it for 2 hours on the dyno, he refused to take it back, and repetedly said that he will fix the problem....going by what he keeps doing to me, i take it he now realalises that there is a problem with the projunk carb....he is making changes to them..but still has problems. I spent $800 dollars on a piece of crap carb that i cannot return or get my money back from an item that ive used for 2 hours.....and keep ringing him to return it so i can unload it on some other poor bast*^d for around half of what i paid for it.....can you see my frustration. :
Yeh I know your not taking a shot at me save it for the dyno, a mate got one of those distributors it idled at 10 degress and totaled at 60 degress just great, I still run an XC distributor old and dirty but works fine with the MSD. I would still give a carbie a go I just worry about it being to lean on the top end and since I have 12.7 to 1 I dont want to have a melt down.

Good old faithfull !!!!! Those electronic XC dizzys were great for what they were !! Even the factory XE dizzys were a very good "factory component". I almost guarantee the projunk will let you down. And just for arguments sake....if you spent a crap load of money on an engine and just because the carb was "not doing its job" and burns out valves or in a worst case senario....puts a hole in the piston or melts rings, because it runs lean at top end......you will not get a warranty claim in ! :
But on another note...i must appologise for the change in subject..this thread started off on a good note with some excellent numbers from your ute, and ive sort of changed it into a bitc$ing session. Bring on dyno day May 3rd !!! You and i will fly the clevo flag high and crush the hearts of the crumpledoor clan ! : And hopefully Neil will have his XY ready soon, and i have to slot his engine back together with his new goodies that he has bought during the past couple of weeks...he will also be displaying some good numbers!!!!! :

Default Thread

I dont care where this thread heads, I hope to have my 950 ultra next week I will dyno it as soon as I get it if its not as good as my 850 I will sell it to you at a better price than you will get any where, That if it hasnt go bits of piston stuck in it, I realy have had that happen before and still did a 10.3 at 115 mph in my old capri

Default Dyno junky

I got 317 rwhp on a mainline dyno with drag radials
375 rwhp on a mainline dyno with steel belted radials
410 rwhp on a dyno dynamics with drag radials
430 rwhp on a dyno dynamics with steel belted radials
OK then I put on a 950 HP ultra holley instead of my modified 850 and got
426 rwhp and it was even running a better AFR
all this was on the same tank of fuel and with in a few weeks of each other

Sweet numbers Bruce, now im starting to worry abit, as i am expecting 420 - 430 rwhp out of mine. As a i got 532hp from the flywheel with the 950 ultra fitted. But the carb i have on the XB now is a bo-laws 780 which flows to 950cfm, and found out that is a $2000 carb and these guys fitted and jetted it to the 378 that was origanly in the XB Hogg Performance. And after talking to the guy that built the 378 and done the tune work, i described the build that i have done to the 393, and he said it will need a couple of bigger jets installed, but it will do the job very well. So i will be getting this one jetted to my engine, by the looks of it i have to take her to Sydney to get it done as AGAIN nobody here can do the job correctly. Maybe one day a competent dyno / tune operator will open up on the mid north coast. : : :

Default Jetting

The more work I do to my ute as in bigger cam, more compression, ect im finding that it is getting richer and richer since my last fiddle with my motor ive had to go from 82s all round to 78s all round and as you can see from my AFR its still way to rich so my next move is to go down from 78s to 76s I need to run it a bit rich on the pump gas as I got a bit excited with my compression and the rich mixture stops a bit of pinging, If I get my hands on some VP C14 I will give it a bit leaner mixture and a little more advance and see what happens, maybe a big BANG, cause this is just a experiment motor for me and its not realy built to last to long, down the track I will do a alluminium head stroker but I will only want to do that motor once and enjoy it, so this is my homework motor and the next one will be the test,

Talking Tune / Dyno

Well in the end i have to go to Sydney for a dyno / tune. As there is no competent dyno / tune fellas here. I spoke to CV performance today in Sydney and spoke to them as to what the car it is and what has been done to the engine, and what i want out of it, they are booked solid for a month, so i have to wait. So in 4-5 weeks time i will finaly see what see pulls after being properly tuned. Here is the website, they were very profesional. CV Performance Not sure what type of dyno they have Bruce, but i would say the work that they do and who for it will be top shelf.

Default C&V

Ive known Con and Vic for about 25 years now I only spoke with Con the other day picking his brains on the 950HP ultra that wasnt as good as my 850 but I havent given it a fair go yet, They have had some fast cars "but" are you sure you dont want to go to Taree autobarn I will meet you there and we can have a play on Lances Dyno I will bring a couple of carbies jets ect, But before we even get there make sure your distributor has about 18 crank degrees advance in it all in by about 3000 to 3500 and do your tappets and a good tank of fuel and reusable float bowl gaskets already fitted, Sorting out an engine is the best part of building it dont miss out on doing it, We can also tune it to be a few RWHP under mine , then if we get good results you can buy me a carton of Bundy and cola

Me and Melissa are going to make a long weekend out of it, travel down on a thursday, drop the trailer and the coupe at the shop, book into a Cronulla motel, they said it will require a full day on Friday, so we just catch a train into circular key and take a ferry ride to taronga zoo for the day. Pick the trailer and coupe up saturday morning, and a slow ride home. Then i just know it has been done right, and after they have finnished with it, it will be at its peak. And they can give advice for future mods also, so we can get some more out of it when the time arrives. And what he has quoted me for a whole days work.....i cant argue with price against the reputation that these guys have. Dont worry Bruce....when its all over i will still buy a carton of bundy and cola and i will help you drink them. : : : OH....forgot, i will have to bring along me mate Neil, but dont worry, 3 drinks and hes finnished.
P.S
After quite a few emails to the states, i have finnally identified the carb on the coupe now. She is a Bo-Laws with a 750 base and it has been modified to flow to 935 CFM.Bo-Laws website I have the track/pro street carb number 4016-750hp. Bo-Laws in the states says that this carb is good to 600HP, any further i will have to go larger. And that came from the serial numbers on the carb. I was quite impressed with the service and the time it took to respond to my emails. Very profesional !!
And now going in the totaly opposite direction, I RANG PRO CARB AGAIN, and they sent my carb up today via courier.....guess what...THEY SENT THE WRONG CARB BACK !!!!!!! IDIOTS !!!! They will try again on Monday. :
